Watts of Occasions on the Autism Awareness Blog Hop

Today has me sharing Watts of Occasions for Autism Awareness. This is a special blog hop to help increase the awareness of Autism. While my son does not have Autism, he does have numerous special needs and we’ve developed friendships with other kids with Autism. It helps to understand that Autism has lots of faces. As a mom to a special needs child, I understand the struggle to help our kids maneuver a world where they don’t fit within the parameters set by society. Autism Kids are uniquely special. All kids with special needs are unique, special and touch the lives of many!

April 2nd is the start of recognizing Autism Awareness month. So, join me in helping increase Autism Awareness and how Autism touches the lives of everyone!

What is Autism? It is a complex developmental disability. Most often it appears during the first three years of life. Autism is a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain and impacts development in the areas of social interaction and communications skills.

Bringing Autism Awareness with Watts of Occasions

Watts of Occasions Light it up Blue

My goal is to Light it Up Blue with Watts of Occasions here on my blog today. I wasn’t certain what i was going to create at first to contribute to Autism Awareness. Puzzle pieces? No… I drew a blank.

Maybe rainbow colors pulled from the puzzle? Well, that had potential but I just wasn’t coming up with solid ideas that I liked!

Then, inspiration hit! The Watts of Occasions Stamp Set was perfect when paired with the Light it Up Blue campaign associated with Autism Awareness. The official “blue” for Light is Up Blue is a Royal Blue but I had to improvise a bit and opted to go with Pool Party.

I am sharing two cards featuring the Watts of Occasions Stamp Set for Autism Awareness. I hope you enjoy the cards I’ve created. The Cards depict a blue light to help light up the world and creating awareness of Autism.

Card #1 – Clean and Simple Light Up My Life Card

The first card I’m sharing features a background stamped with the words “You Light Up My Life.” I used the Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment lightly four times with one of them stamped slightly darker. The photos really don’t do justice to the card in person as I just couldn’t get the light stamping of the sentiment to show up. I love the Pool Party paired with the Silver accents.

Card Details:

  • Card Base is Thick Whisper White.
  • The Card front is Whisper White.
  • Using the Stamparatus, start at the top corner position and stamp the sentiment with Pool Party and use the Hinge Step to stamp down the edge of the Whisper White card front.
  • Stamp the lightbulb with the heart shape using Memento Black.
  • Color the light bulb using the Pool Party Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers. I love the shading and feel.
  • Next, I cut out the lightbulb. Fussy cutting the lightbulb is pretty easy.
  • Add Silver Metallic Thread and Silver Mini Sequins behind the lightbulb.
  • Adhere the lightbulb to the card front.
  • Finish the card by adding the silver stars embellishments from the Metallic Enamel Shapes.

Card #2 – Stepped Up Light it Up Blue Autism Awareness Card

This is a stepped up version that was inspired by the previous card. I absolutely LOVE this card with the Basic Black circle as a contrast against the Pool Party, Silver Embellishments and Whisper White Background. The sentiment, You Light Up My Life, just seemed to fit perfectly with Autism Awareness. All kids are a light but our sons and daughters with Autism along with special needs are a special light.

I wanted this second card to really stand out. There are lots of layers and the blue lightbulb shines as the anchor for the sentiment. Silver accents and embellishments also add to the focus of the card.

Card Details:

  • Card Base is Thick Whisper White.
  • The Card front is Whisper White.
  • Stamp the lightbulb with Memento Black ink.
  • Color the light bulb using the Pool Party Stampin’ Blend Alcohol Markers. I love the shading and feel.
  • Next, fussy cut the lightbulb. The lightbulb is easy to cut out!
  • Using the Big Shot, die cut a Basic Black Stitched Shapes Circle and a Whisper White Stitched Shapes circle that nests inside the Basic Black circle.
  • Using the Banners for You Stamp Set, stamp the double banner with Pool Party on Pool Party Cardstock.
  • Die cut the banner using the Bunch of Banners Framelits.
  • Attach the banner to the card front.
  • Adhere the Basic Black circle over the banner along with the Whisper White circle.
  • Add Silver Metallic Thread and Silver Mini Sequins behind the lightbulb.
  • Adhere the lightbulb to the Whisper White Circle.
  • Stamp the sentiment with Memento Black Ink, cut into strips then adhere to the lightbulb.
  • Finish the card by adding the silver stars embellishments from the Metallic Enamel Shapes.
