PCC243: Happy Birthday Thinlits Watercolor Card

Hey, stampers, it’s a Happy Birthday Thinlits Watercolor Card kind of day and I’m having fun playing with a couple of watercolor techniques.  I also have a nice bonus today with not one but two similar cards.  Each card is inspired by this weeks Paper Craft Crew Card Sketch yet a few changes here and there result in two different cards. So, yes, it’s Wednesday and I’m over at the Paper Craft Crew for the Weekly Challenge!   You are invited to check out this weeks sketch as well as the Design Team submissions.  The challenge starts today and ends on Tuesday, May 13, 2017 @ 1:00 PM EST.

Happy Birthday Thinlits Watercolor Card

Paper Craft Crew Challenge #243

Watercolor added to a card is a fun way to add color.  The color can be subdued or intense.  It depends on the technique used. Two of my favorite techniques are wet-on-dry and wet-on-wet.  Wet-on-wet means applying fresh (or wet) paint to a wet surface. The result is that colors spread into one another, producing soft edges and blending. Painting wet-on-dry produces sharp edges.

Today’s cards are closer to a wet-on-dry technique as I’ve let each layer dry but not completely before I add the next color. I love the sharp edges produced by wet-on-dry but also love the soft, blended edges. Each card features a little bit of both techniques.  Where I’ve overlapped, I added a controlled amount of water to create some blending while creating the sharp edges of the dry-on-wet technique on the outer edges of the watercolor background.

The second card features the same technique but I changed the elements of the card.  Colors for the background watercolor technique are Perfect Plum, Powder Pink and Berry Burst.  I used the Happy Birthday Thinlits die cut from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and heat embossed with clear embossing powder three times.  Washi tape from “A Sara Thing” Paper Pumpkin Kit is used as the base “banner” then I added a Basic Black banner.  Based on the sketch, I completed the card by using a heart die cut from the Wood Crate Framelits.  There are three hearts glued together and crumpled to give the heart a distressed appearance.  Glitter Enamel Dots are added as the finishing touch! The Glitter Enamel Dots are easily one of my favorite NEW embellishments!
