Rockin’ it in Seaside, Oregon

One nice summer craft is Rock painting and if you are going to paint a rock, it is fun to have a place for it to go like the Painted Rock Beach that is tucked into a secluded corner West of Ocean Vista Dr. and Avenue W.  I live in Seaside on the North Coast of Oregon.  If you stand on our beach you can see Washington state to the north  and although our little beach is only 1 1/2 miles long, we are proud of our history:  the Lewis and Clark Expedition (in 1805) processed salt right on our beach so they could have enough salt for their return trip for the east coast.

Our little Painted Rock Beach is covered with rocks in various stages of wear.  The salt water and sideways rain are hard on the paint!  The path to the garden is also the path I take to gather driftwood so I can check on the status of the rocks I have painted years ago.

I wanted to paint a new rock, but I wanted it to be unusual so I found a head shaped rock and used acrylic paint and fingernail polish to make a sleeping rock!

I thought it would be fun to make a rock that looked like it needed a nap!  Just looking at it makes me want to yawn, tee hee.

I found a lot of cool ideas when I checked painted rocks on pinterest:

This mermaid rock by Lorilee Thomas Art is so beautiful….a true work of art!

Hope you got some rock art ideas.  It is a great craft to do with the kids or grandkids on a hot summer afternoon.
