Finding Your Creativity Through Stress

In this day in age its hard not to get Stressed out and overwhelmed. Our lives consist of so many different variables, work, family, money management and the constant chatter of our social worlds to name a few. In the midst of juggling all of these different things each and every day it can become an uphill struggle to find your individual Creativity. I am not just saying this to those who are artists, crafters or musicians. I believe that everyone has a form of creativity to their life, either personally (like keeping the kiddos entertained) or professionally (thinking outside of the box).

So how can you find that creativity when you are stressed and your mind is in a state of anxiety? Here are some of the techniques and tools that I have used to help me find creativity when I am feeling stressed.

Mediation & Brain Wave Therapy

Mediation is something that I have been hearing about for years through articles and my research into alternative solutions for stress. At first I thought that it wouldn’t be helpful because I believed that it was a religious practice. The first I had heard of it (mediation) was in connection with monks. But now I see that it is a way to calm the mind by focusing on your breathing and positive thoughts. It works wonders for me when I need to pull myself out of a chaotic mindset.

Brain wave therapy is totally new to me. In fact I have only been using this technique for a couple of months. However, let me be the first to tell you that I think it is phenomenal! A little while back I read a blog post about binaural beats and the way they affect the brain. This triggered my curiosity so I found an Android app made by Black Coffee Programming and downloaded it on my phone. Now whenever I need to sleep deeply or refocus I play the corresponding wave and the results are right on the money.

Disclaimer: I am not an affiliate of Black Coffee Programming or the Brain Wave Therapy App, I just strongly believe in the results that I have achieved by using this app.

Aromatherapy & Music

There is so much research out there on the positive effects of aromatherapy so I won’t go to deep into it. I will say that I believe that the scent that works for me might not necessarily work for the next person. I am calmed and I instantly can feel relief from stress from vanilla. Its not the really heavy or sweet smelling vanilla, its subtle and almost gentle smelling. I use it in my homemade carpet freshener and in my oil burners. Here is one of my favorite oil burners

I am an associate so if you follow the link and purchase these super cute burners I will get a percentage but I am also a customer and I stand behind this product.

Music is another tool that can be used to relieve stress. To each its own where music is concerned, just like with the different aromatherapy scents. I have a few go to playlists, depending on how stressed I feel and what it is that is causing me to feel stressed. But to bolster creativity I turn to my Amazon Music App and I play the Classical For Focus playlist. If you’re not into classical its still an awesome app because they (Amazon Music) have EVERYTHING when it comes to music genres and artists.  Check out this cool offer //rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?o=1&p=12&l=ur1&category=amazon_music_bounty&banner=0T0HPE83T3D5SZPKZYG2&f=ifr&lc=pf4&linkID=f69bb02195ba65c044ac4c3f3e001dac&t=4sh-20&tracking_id=4sh-20

Brainstorming & Freestyling

Last but certainly not least sometimes the best way to get the creative juices going is to get some of the clutter out of your mind. Brainstorming is a technique that can be used in many different ways but its main purpose is to write what you are thinking even if it seems like you’re just writing random thoughts. You never know what creative juices you might get flowing and its really helpful to get your focus off of whatever you’re stressing about. I like to grab my favorite notebook or open up my Dragon Anywhere app on my phone and just let go by writing or speaking whatever comes to mind.

Freestyling is what I call my abstract everything. Sometimes in order for me to be creative when I am super-stressed I have to do just that, be creative. Even if you aren’t the best cook, throw some ingredients together that you think might taste great and just like that you’ve got a new recipe. Or try your hand at painting or drawing something abstract. It doesn’t have to be perfect and you never know what might emerge from your efforts.

The bottom line is that life is stressful for everyone. However, it doesn’t have to inhibit you or your creativity. Try one of my suggestions or try all of them until you find what is right for you. Please let me know how you find your creativity when your stressed or if you try one these techniques let me know in the comments. Thanks for stopping by!
