Drawing Pictures Using Circles

Drawing circles can be challenging. In fact, Drawing any geometrical shapes needs a bit more patience practice. How do we make children practice drawing circles? Let’s Draw pictures with circles. Drawing pictures using circles will be definitely engaging.

Children Draw Circles in different ways and the most common way that I have seen is one stroke that completes the entire circle. Sometimes the ends do not meet but nevertheless, they feel triumphant. So then as a teacher, it is for you to slowly help them turn into a round.

Artists like Kandinsky and  Delaunay have made beautiful compositions using circles. And this is one of the ways you can try to draw circles with children.

Another way is to draw the circle and convert them into something else. Like an animal, a bird or even a figure. Children will have a lot of ideas to draw from a circle after you illustrate one or two of them.

Draw the first circle

When you draw the circle, see that the circle is big enough. Children always end up drawing the circles too small. Draw at least 3 large circles next to each other. Then convert one of the circle into a fish or a tortoise and ask them to finish it. Colour with crayons or pencil colours.

Draw overlapping circles

Many things can be drawn from the overlapping circles. The first thing that comes to mind is the snowman and most of the children end up drawing them. It would be interesting to draw a monkey or a Panda also.

Draw circles that touch

I saw a beautiful cat drawn from two circles touching each other. Here you see a bird. Think what else we should draw.

Circles concentric

A pig is a right choice. It has a round nose and a round face and then around body if you are seeing from the front. Drawing concentric circles is not very easy.

Draw an entire picture with circles

You must read the book, Big Green Drawing book, by the author, Ed Emberley. With circles, see how he creates almost anything. There are simple step-by-step instructions to create zorts, crocolators, dohalogs and more than 100 fun things. The figures are cute and everybody would like to draw them. The book is available on Amazon and you should buy it. It is a beautiful book where he has taught us to draw everything from circles. Ask the children to draw anything themselves and see how they come up with beautiful ideas. Find suggestions for more of Ed Emberley’s books.
