This button Cross is a BIG deal! It’s just GORGEOUS! And, it’s dramatic in a good way!
If you want to make something with lasting value that would be shared for generations to come, this is IT!!
I’m very proud of it. And, you will be too!
It’s not hard to make the button cross but it does need A LOT of buttons. I made this one primarily with white and cream-colored vintage buttons but, of course, you can use any color. White just seemed to fit the Easter theme and matches everything.
And, here is what my table looked like with all the white buttons spread on it. As you can see, I have a ton of white buttons!
If you need to buy white buttons, read my earlier blog posting on button art supplies. It gives you ideas on where to buy them. Of course, button quality is important in this art piece. And, vintage buttons are the best! Also, do remember that you’ll need different sizes of buttons to finish this piece.
Other supplies you will need are multiple-sized crystals (I use Swarovski) and white cabochons. You’ll also need glue (Gem-Tac) and, of course, a canvas.
- Trace the cross the canvas. Or, cut-out a template and tape it the canvas as I did in the pictures below:
- Position the buttons in a pleasing fashion the canvas. You don’t have to place all of them on the canvas before you begin gluing but it’s good to have some in place. It will give you a preliminary view of the finished product.
- Glue the buttons, cabochons and crystals the canvas. I like using the crystals and cabochons to outline the cross. They just give a nice crisp line.
And, here is a picture of the finished art piece. Isn’t it beautiful?!!
Happy Crafting my friends!
