Your Prepping Goals in 2017

Belated happy new year, may this new year help you complete all your goals. So, the year 2016 has come to an end, though this post is a little bit late, it’s still just in time for setting your 2017 Prepping goals. I hope you all had a good year and I wish you a great year ahead. How many of your 2016 goals did you complete? What should you prioritize this year when it comes to prepping?

Whatshould be your prepping goals in 2017

Make a list of possible scenarios

When it comes to serious prepping, there are a lot of emergencies to prepare for, from natural disasters such as earthquake, flood, tornado, fire to nuclear and emp threats. So, the question arises, is it worth preparing for every situation?

The answer is NO.

You need to settle down and make a list of possible scenarios, rank them according to their likelihood and severity and then work out your plan for each of them.

Learn a useful skill

A useful survival Skill can be a life saver. Get yourself trained in first aid and CPR; these are the easiest to learn, and your whole family can learn these skills.

Learn to make fire and build shelter, you may have your survival kits and tools with you all the time, but it’s not so difficult to lose them in an emergency situation, only your survival skills can help you in such a situation.

You can even get FCC certificate to operate satellite phone; it might be the only way to communicate when cellphone services go down.

Learn to grow food

Gardening can be fun and a survival skill at the same time. You can learn to grow potatoes, rice, and some other easy to grow food this year.

Gardening is a skill, and it sure does take time, so be patient and determined.

Buy something for your non-prepper friends/family members

While you are at it, why not help your non-prepper friends and family members.

Make them a small car survival kit with essentials or give them a DIY paracord gift. What will be better than helping your loved ones with just one gift? You can even take your family with you on camping or trekking; it can teach them the importance of prepping and survival skills.

Organizing your stuff better

When SHTF, you will most probably have very less time to get your stuff. If you are a casual prepper, this situation might be disastrous for you. Just building a bug out bag is not enough, check out these prepping mistakes that most of the preppers make. Keep your important stuff like bug out bag, important documents, and other survival tools in an easily accessible place for the emergency.

Build yourself a bug out bag, if you haven’t already

If you haven’t already built a bug out bag for yourself, this is the right time to do so. There are some great bug out bag guides online. Check out them, go out for shopping and build yourself a BOB.

If you already have a bug out bag, you can upgrade it and check for expired items, you can also build a get home bag. Get home bag is equally important as a bug out bag.

So, the key takeaway from this post is that, whether you are a casual prepper or a serious prepper. This new year, you should prioritize your to-do list and follow it strictly.

Prepping for one particular event doesn’t mean that you are prepared for hundreds of other disasters/events. Also, it is just a waste of time to be the jack of all trades and master of none. So find out your needs and do some research about possible disasters and SHTF scenarios which are relevant for you and your area and prepare for those events based on their likelihood.
