Getting healthy at Terror Twilight

I’ll admit to happily indulging in a fried chicken sandwich at Bedford Street. But I’ll also admit I only went there twice because I try to limit my fried chicken consumption. I mustn’t have been the only person with one eye on my likelihood of a future heart attack so the owners of Bedford Street have tweaked the decor slightly and reopened as Terror Twilight with a more health conscious menu. They kindly invited me in to check it out.

Bedford Street is now Terror Twilight

The space is still largely unchanged: light and airy thanks to the big glass windows facing out onto Johnson street with a bit more greenery to create a homelier feel.

Inside Terror Twilight

What has changed is the menu. Terror Twilight is now the sort of place you could eat at twice a day rather than twice a year without fear of an early death.  Yes there’s a pancake stack but the pancakes are made from buckwheat and instead of a bacon and maple syrup topping there’s poached fruit and toasted coconut.

The thing that will make me a regular here is the bowl food option. You can customise your veg, broth and add accompaniments from avocado to chicken. It’s the sort of thing you could easily make yourself at home out of bits and pieces but you never actually do. And why would you when Terror Twilight makes it so easy and pretty?

I got the veg bowl with avocado, blush pink salmon, soft boiled egg and haloumi because it’s hard to say no to any of those things.

The smoothies are also excellent. The “too good’ smoothie has mango, passion fruit, banana, chia, cordyceps mushrooms and fermented protein powder. I feel healthier just from writing that let alone drinking it.

But of course there is coffee. And it is good coffee by Wide Open Road roasters all made using a pale pink La Marzocco machine.

It’s not all health food at Terror Twilight

And there are pastries, salads and sandwiches for quick grab and go options. The pastries are especially helpful if you are feeling just a bit too virtuous after all those bowls and smoothies.
