Who is this course for?

For coaches, leaders, teachers, health professionals, social workers, psychologists, and anyone who wants to make tomorrow a little bit better than today by exploring positive psychology.

“The CIPP offers a proven set of tools and principles useful in any profession or leadership role—managers, leaders, social workers, psychologists, coaches, allied health professionals, yoga teachers, school teachers, and anyone who influences how people think, act, and live, will benefit from this program. Prerequisites: Associates degree or comparable life experience.”

In regard to my own personal journey in completing this course, I am very thrilled to have met the individuals within my small break-out group. I am blessed to say we are still connecting and assisting one another with emotional support via the various projects we have chosen to explore. Applying some of the basic tenets from this course is a daily event that helps to instil lifelong habits. These connections are paramount for networking and accountability purposes.

Another highlight of the course is the wide net, which is cast in respect to careers and innovations related to coaching, health and well-being, mind-body work and leadership. One example of this is the area of study known as Appreciative Inquiry, a body of research where many participants have since delved.

Takeaways

In the end, I think the three most important lessons/concepts I took away from this course were:

  • The Permission to be Human.
  • Appreciate the good because the good appreciates.
  • Self-concordant goals.

Inherent in each of these subject areas is the daily reminder that resilience is at the core of change and that our small, incremental, “kaizen” changes do work and in the long-run, lead to increased well-being. The concept of longevity and the work done by Dan Buettner on the blue zones was also very influential. Connection with others and a healthier self-esteem can help create a thriving lifestyle and in turn, a stronger community.
