Cold Feet...Literally

This morning was freezing in the studio, and my feet felt icy cold for a good 20 minutes into the 9 AM Class. It was almost in the 30's outside overnight, which is not very common down here in South Florida. It took me a while before all these beautiful asanas started to feel good.

Amazingly enough, my hips felt very opened, especially in Ardha Baddha Padmottanasana (standing bound half lotus, frwrd bend). Even my left side did not give me the usual hard time and my right knee was well behaved, Thank Goodness. I'm done trying to figure my body out and predict how stiff or flexible it is going to be, which I think is a good thing. I'm much better off letting it do what it wants to do, and just going along with it. No sense fighting and coercing it into doing what I have in mind, especially with its ability to rebel and its way of saying: Payback is a ... (rhymes with witch).

J adjusted me in a very deep Marichyasana C (Seated twist, bound knee) on both sides, and my spine felt awesome afterwards. For a few seconds, and towards the beginning of the 5th breath on my left side, my spine felt like it was going to snap. That's when my breathing went into overdrive with a really deep inhale and a very loud exhale. Amazing are the things we do to our bodies.

After class, I ended up at a French bakery with a friend who was practicing next to me, enjoying some very fattening eclairs and croissants in the beautiful January sun. The subject du jour was mainly about Yoga, especially that she teaches Sivinanda in the area, and her fondness for Iyengar classes. I don't know, the thought of long holds with belts and props makes me want to just run for the hills.
