About Sedation Dentistry

Some people are just plain afraid of any and all medical procedures, including those that are completely routine. Thanks to the wonders of Sedation Dentistry, many formerly dental phobic patients are now walking around with healthy mouths and clean smiles.

Many of us still prefer to avoid the dental clinic just because of the painful treatment. Not only children but also adults have the phobia of dental clinic because of the pain. The sedation dentistry may be a right option for you.

How it works?

In the sedation dentistry the patient is treated with the tranquilizers, anxiolytics, nitrous oxide etc to make the patient unconscious with respect to pain. It is not like anesthesia where a patient is completely unconscious. With these drugs patient is in conscious state and can easily interact with the doctor but he/she cannot feel the pain during the effect of the drugs.

These drugs can be given to patient in various ways like inhalation, injection or orally. These are mostly used when the children are not ready for the dental treatment. The sedation treatment is a good therapy to ease the pain and make the treatment easy for both patient as well as dentist. Some people have misunderstood the treatment and sometimes called it as sleep dentistry as they feel sleepy during the treatment.
