Impotence which is also known as Erectile Dysfunction is becoming common in men these days. Impotence is defined as the inability to achieve or sustain a hard erection that lasts till the end of sexual intercourse. It can be chronic or temporary. One out of ten men is affected by impotence. Around 2.3 million men in UK are observed to be suffering from erectile dysfunction.

What are the causes?

Causes of impotence can be categorized into physical as well as psychological. Physical causes include

• High cholesterol
• Kidney disorders
• Excessive smoking and alcohol consumption
• Consumption of drugs
• Physical damage caused to the penis
• Some medicines may have adverse effect causing impotence.

Not only physical, but there are certain psychological causes also leading to erectile dysfunction. They include

Generally, psychological causes can be resolved by helping oneself as they prevail for temporary period of time. They can also be solved by discussion with your partner. Whatever the cause, it should be diagnosed on time and appropriate treatment must be taken. Avoiding impotence in its initial stages can be done by seeking natural solutions but if in case it becomes a serious problem, then prescription pills are also available.
