Medical Conferences: The Journey So Far

If there’s one time that brings ‘excitement’ in the healthcare community, it has to be this – The Fall Conference season.

Medical Conferences are, undoubtedly, eagerly anticipated annual events for those in healthcare business- pharmaceutical/medical device company heads, doctors and researchers. And why not? They represent excellent opportunities to present the results of new research, while exploring cases ripe for deeper analysis.

If you’ve ever been a part of a medical conference, chances are that you’re still in awe of some breathtaking medical animation visual that stirred the crowd.

But the supreme technology used today to capture eyeballs and, hence, the mind, wasn’t always around. Historically, medical conferences only functioned as forums for exchanging novel ideas and promoting best practices.

Gradually though, these events began to be looked upon as “growth opportunities”. Relationships started forging, research projects began to get conceived, and issues were debated during medical conferences. That’s when the need for ‘putting the best foot forward’ was realised.

How Presentation Practices Have Changed With Time?

The traditionally employed, tried and tested techniques such as poster presentations, usually featuring hard copies of published/unpublished findings, simple visual aids like slideshows, overhead projectors, whiteboards and blackboards, were eventually improvised through software programs (like MS Powerpoint) that streamlined the slide-making process and also worked well to “dress up” the presentations. Electronic posters with integrated medical animation were also used widely.

Soon it was realised that static slides with abstract graphics no longer cut in today’s digital age. With numerous media sharing platforms available, modern conference attendees naturally appreciate more sophisticated and easy to use videos. Presenters are, therefore, now incorporating amusing and utterly informative animations. This is why medical animation appears to be playing an increasingly important role in various aspects of medical marketing, medical student training and education, and even patient education.

Other Prominent Changes To Look Forward To

  • Modern medicine is, clearly, discovering entirely new ways of leveraging emerging technologies to confront age-old challenges. The latest example could be that of VR medical conferences that investigate the current state of VR technology within medicine and healthcare, providing an overview of existing applications, examining key case studies and exploring opportunities beyond treatment, into self diagnosis and the integration of AI tech. The sessions also address the skills and processes required when creating VR content for the medical industry.
  • There is also a paradigm shift from the ‘sage-on-stage’ format to more of interactive sessions that involve open discussion with experts. Apparently, the future will see collaborative conference agendas with the attendees giving more inputs. Another novel and vital dimension is the significant movement towards collaborative medicine, where patient experience and insights are embraced; it is bound to bring challenges too.

Can Medical Animations lead to new discoveries in Healthcare?

Back in school, Biology was one subject that was centered around diagrams. The internal organs and organ systems were said to be “incompletely explained” if they weren’t supported by an illustration. Healthcare is, undoubtedly, an area where visuals weigh more than theory. Read More..

The Versatility of 3D Medical Animations

3D medical animations are not just a natural extension of 2D medical illustrations or physical 3D models that have existed since long. When aided by computer modeling techniques, they become an indispensable tool for teaching, patient education, planning of complex surgeries, Read More..
