Benefit of Yoga: Keystone Habit

No matter what style of yoga you practice, the essence of yoga is to integrate the different aspects of one’s existence.  That is, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. 

What is Keystone habit

Keystone Habit is when one good habit leads to the development of several good habits. In the book, The Power of habit; Charles Duhigg explains that you don’t have to change dozens of habits to get to your goals.  You only have to change a few keystone habits that will have a ripple effect on your outcomes.

Yoga as a Keystone habit

When you start with Yoga. You reap the primary benefits of yoga like; Strength, flexibility, De-stressing and weight-loss.  With time, yoga helps in:

  • Improving digestion, body metabolism
  • Improved respiration, energy and vitality
  • Body’s hormonal balance
  • Body-mind detoxification
  • Neuroplasticity and changing neural pathways
  • Mindfulness in daily life
  • Better cardio and circulatory health
  • Stronger immunity system
  • Better Emotional intelligence, etc.

And when Yoga becomes a lifestyle or a keystone habit; then you see more benefits or the ripple effect of yoga. Like:

  • More awareness about what you eat
  • Substituting processed foods with fresh foods
  • Spending alone-quality time to nourish the self

Success with a keystone habit happens when you take that first step.  Right now, make a list of all the habits you’d like to develop.  Pay close attention to the ones that can have a ripple-effect in your life.  Then focus on forming this habit over the next month. You’d be surprised at how this small change can generate many positive outcomes.
