Simon Pegg Battled With Alcohol In Secret During “Mission: Impossible” And Other Films

Simon Pegg is a great actor, in more ways than one. Battling with depression since he was 18, Pegg self-medicated through alcohol abuse, which constantly loomed in the background during his entire Film career. He said it was particularly bad during Mission: Impossible III, his first film in the movie franchise. Luckily, the film staff were supportive and decreased his ability to access alcohol in subsequent films, but he didn’t seek to end his addiction until he had his daughter. She began to notice his drinking, which gave him the final step needed to go to meetings and rehab, and eventually quit.

Simon Pegg has opened up about his secret battle with booze, revealing he wouldn’t be here now if he hadn’t got the help he needed.

The actor, 48, has suffered from depression since he was 18 and would deal with it by self-medicating. It was only in 2006, when he flew to Los Angeles to film Mission: Impossible III that he reached rock bottom – or in his own words “the crisis years”.

“When I watch that film back, I can see where I was then, which was fairly lost, and unhappy, and an alcoholic,” he told The Guardian , before adding no one realised because “I acted… all the f**king time”.
