Dontcha Know: Minnesota is the Healthiest State for Seniors

A new report has concluded the Midwest has some of the Healthiest seniors in the nation; four of the top five healthiest states for Americans 65 and older are located in this region, according to a national ranking by consumer insurance agency website MedicareSupplement.com.

The ranking took into account 20 research measures, including cost of living index, median incomes, hospital and nursing home quality, and community factors such as the availability of public parks, air quality, physical activity, and volunteerism.

The data was sourced from national public health resources, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and private organizations, such as the United Health Foundation.

“The combination of lower average costs of living and better health care outcomes is why the Midwestern states beat out more common retirement destinations,” senior data scientist Win Pratt said in a statement.

Here are the top 10 healthiest states for seniors:

—Minnesota

—Iowa

—North Dakota

—Florida

—Nebraska

—South Dakota

—Colorado

—Montana

—Maine

—Michigan
