Yoga - Before you start

This post is about the requisites to Practice yoga.

BATH
    Asanas come easier after a bath. After asanas,it is desirable to bathe at least fifteen minutes later.

FOOD
    Before starting asanas, the bladder should be emptied and the bowels evacuated.It is best to practice asanas on an empty stomach.A cup of tea or coffee or milk may be taken 10 minutes before if you need it so badly. It is alright to practice one hour after a very light meal. After a heavy meal, at least four hours gap should be maintained before starting to practice. Heavy Food may be taken half an hour after completing the asanas.

TIME
   The best time to practise is either early in the morning or late in the evening. 

SUN
   Do not practise asanas after being out in the hot sun for a long time.

PLACE
  They should be done in a clean airy place. Do not do them on the bare floor or on an uneven place, but on a folded blanket or carpet laid on a level floor.

CAUTION
  No undue strain should be felt in the facial muscles, ears and eyes or in breathing during the practice.

EYES 
  In the beginning, keep your eyes open. Then you will know what you are doing and where you go wrong. Once you are perfect in a particular asana, then on you can keep your eyes closed.

BREATHING
   In all the asanas, breathing should be done through the nostrils only and not through the mouth.

RELAX
  Once you are done with the asanas, always lie down in Savasana for at least 10 minutes.
