Acne Scars -- Causes And Prevention

Acne outbreaks will always leave important marks on your Skin and these marks are called Acne Scars. These scars are caused by injury to the skin as a result of acne, and the way in which the body responds to the damage. The way the scars appear is different in people, some are more susceptible than the others. But irrespective of how vulnerable you are to scarring, it only occurs when you have a severe outbreak and is rarely associated with the common mild cases.

All acne scars are defined under two broad categories:

(1) Keloid Scars

These are scars where extra skin tissue is deposited on the skin. They consist of extra collagen which has been laid down under the skin and sometimes they get bigger than the original spots and often last for years. Most of the time they give a darker skin.

(2) Sunken Scars
These constitute the type of scars where skin tissue is lost. They are commoner than keloid scars and are characterized as pits in the skin. This type of scars are further classified into various categories based on the particular way the scars look. For instance, ice-pick sunken scars look like wound from an ice-pick having jagged edges and steep sides.

However, either your skin is susceptible or not, there are still some important things you can do to reduce the occurrence of acne scars. Some of these are:

 do not squeeze or pick your acne spots, this only will dramatically reduce your chance of getting acne scars.

 do not pick or poke the acne spots with instruments such as tweezers or nail files.

 seek for treatment for your acne before it becomes severe. This can be done by seeing a doctor, adjusting your diet, starting some topical medication and doing something to prevent a few spots from becoming severe acne.

 get a good oil free moisturizer as part of your skin-care product. This will keep your skin flexible and supple.

By strictly adhering to these simple steps, you will have an assurance of a better skin without scars all your life.
