Laser Eye Surgery by surgeons, not companies

Laser Eye Surgery by surgeons, not companies

It’s often pretty clear how you know if someone sees what they do as much more than just a job.

They’re most comfortable talking about what they do, so when you ask them anything that’s even slightly related to it their eyes light up and then you can’t shut them up. They work even when they don’t have to, and, of course, spend most their spare time thinking about it. And if given the choice to do anything else, even retire right this second and immigrate to the Carribean, they would just laugh it off and get back to it.

They are the type of people you always want to be doing business with and working on the things you care about.

Our clinic was founded by one of these people, and let me tell you, if there was ever one thing you wanted to be delivered by someone who loves what they do, it’s Laser Eye Surgery — and maybe pizza.

As a specialist laser eye surgeon with a unique skill set and career, Professor Dan Reinstein wanted to build a practice and a team that would not just bring the same level of professionalism and care to the industry that he was renowned for, but also help him pursue his vocation of granting as many people as possible with the gift of clear vision.

Such a sentiment may not sound too dissimilar to what you hear from your average laser eye clinic’s mission statement. But as you will see from the way we operate and do things here at London Vision Clinic, we couldn’t be further away from the average clinic.

Patients Over Profit

When we talk about putting our patients first and doing all we can for them, it isn’t just about offering great service and the extra chocolate and neck massage here and there. To us, putting your patients first means that sometimes you turn them away.

That’s a big difference. Whereas the former is what you would expect from a surgeon-run Laser Eye Surgery clinic, and what we would consider standard practice, the latter is a sign you’re putting patients, and crucially their safety, well and truly above your profits.

With a rigorous consultation process that’s three and a half hours long and made up of a minimum of thirty-nine tests, we never pass anyone beyond this stage who we think won’t achieve a great outcome. It takes more time, costs us and our patients more, and is somewhat labour intensive, but we think it’s the way things should be done.

The thing is, even though our screening process is longer and more comprehensive than possibly any other clinic’s, due to our cutting-edge technologies and expertise, we can still treat pretty much anyone — even very high prescriptions.

Safety Over Safety

When it’s the surgeons who are on the floor every day who’re in charge, there’s no such thing as too much safety.

Today, though, Laser Eye Surgery is largely an automated procedure. That means, for the most part, it’s delivered by systems and machines that are specifically designed for their tasks and preprogrammed before you even walk into the room.

This level of automation made it possible to bring the procedure to the masses, not to mention in a package that takes not much longer than it does to brew a cuppa. The downside of this is that it also means clinics can become reliant on outdated technology and systems that have long been superseded.

As a surgeon-run Laser Eye Surgery clinic, we’re not only on top of the latest advancements and developments in the field, we help design and develop them. Although Laser Eye Surgery is known to be a safe and incredibly-low risk procedure, like many medical fields, there’s always more to be done. And so, by investing in new treatments as well as taking extra time to do things like check and re-check the surgical equipment, a patient’s measurements, and the instruments before every procedure, we are constantly working to lower that risk even further.

When you love what you do, it’s merely all in a day’s work.
