You don’t need to suffer with reading glasses or bi-focals

You don’t need to suffer with reading glasses, vari-focals or  bi-focals

Squinting when trying to read fine print, holding the newspaper further and further away from your face, avoiding labels on products when shopping — sound familiar?

To anyone who’s suffering from presbyopia, the condition which describes the loss of quality in near Vision that typically occurs in your mid-forties, these symptoms will be all too familiar.

Maybe you were diagnosed by your optician, or maybe you recognised the symptoms? However you came to find out, one thing’s for sure: you probably think there’s only one feasible solution. That solution is having to rely on external lenses like reading glasses or contacts for the rest of your life. As you may have heard or discovered for yourself, this is far from an ideal solution.

Let’s tackle reading glasses first. Sure, they help get the job done when you can find them, but they’re also incredibly prone to breaking, are a clear giveaway of your age, and are the cause of unsightly red marks on your nose.

What’s worse, wearing shop-bought reading glasses that are too far off your prescription can result in headaches, eye strain, and bouts of nausea.

But even these effects to your health seem trivial when considered against those of contact lenses such as bi-focals.

According to the scientific studies, the risk of sight compromising infection is 1 in 500 for extended wear contact lenses, which is actually higher than the risk of undergoing Laser Eye Surgery; this risk goes down by a factor of five to 1:2500 for daily disposable lenses which is equivalent to the risk of laser eye surgery.

Of course, reading glasses and bi-focals have several advantages and offer many people relief. The problem is they have an equal if not greater amount of disadvantages. Contact lenses may be more convenient than glasses; just pop them in and forget about them (unless you lose one that is). But the long-term implications to your eye health far outweigh their temporary benefits. Reading glasses are relatively cost-effective and easy to manage, but looking through a lens that’s not tailored to your vision can lead to unwanted side effects. Not to mention, you can never find them when you need them as they are always on or off.

The good news is, whether you’ve just started browsing treatment options for presbyopia or you’ve long put up with the annoyances of contacts or glasses, you don’t need to suffer.

Go back twenty years ago, and this couldn’t be said. But thanks to the advancement of Laser Eye Surgery and a revolutionary presbyopia treatment known as Laser Blended Vision, restoring youthful and lens-free vision is now a very real reality.

Finally, a solution to improved reading vision

Unlike glasses and bi-focals, many people have not heard of Laser Blended Vision. You could say it’s still the new kid on the block. The technique has however gained momentum and wider recognition over the past decade, with over 25,000 patients benefitting from its effects. Many top surgeons and industry experts believe it to be the most effective treatment for presbyopia.

This is largely because, unlike all other vision correction methods for presbyopia, it doesn’t rely on external lenses. Laser Blended Vision adjusts the eye’s refraction and, therefore creates a lasting change in your vision.

Of course, as we have not yet discovered how to halt and reverse the ageing process, presbyopia does continue to progress over time, altering your prescription and limiting your vision further. With that being said, many blended vision patients will never have to pick up a pair of glasses or contacts again, experiencing years or even decades of clear, high-quality vision.

The technique works by adjusting each eye in slightly different ways. One eye is tuned to focus mostly up close, while a little at a distance, while the other to work mostly at a distance, and a little up close. The brain quickly adapts to this new perspective, combining the two images to provide much greater depth of vision and an all-around improvement in visual acuity.

How we correct our vision is changing. No longer do you need to depend on external appliances and aids to get you through the day; you can simply upgrade your existing hardware. All you need to do is let go of your old ways and embrace the future of greater vision, health, and quality.
