What’s The Link Between Male Infertility Treatment & Genetic Male Infertility?

It could be mind-blowing to a number of couples, but in the case you are seeking Male Infertility treatment, you certainly have to know this. Some studies indicate that ICSI, which literally means Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection can extend infertility issues to the offspring.

ICSI is a type of Male Infertility Treatment where a single sperm is injected into the egg for fertilization to occur. The treatment is highly considered in case a man is diagnosed with non-motile sperms, poor sperm concentration, low sperm count or in any other case as seen effective.

What Do Some Studies Indicate?

According to fertility specialists, ICSI can pass on male infertility to the boy child or children because it allows non-motile sperm to create an embryo. A certain study about this matter was as follows;

At least 54 men who had been conceived through ICSI were approaches for the study. 57 other men who had been conceived naturally were also approached for the study. A comparison was made and this was found.

Men who had been conceived through ICSI almost had half the sperm concentration as detailed and a two-fold lower count of motile sperm. According to a fertility expert, these findings aren’t surprising at all and before ICSI can be used, patients are always initially informed about this possibility. In most cases, patients still decide to move ahead to undergo the treatment in order to have children.

According to another study, men who were conceived and born through ICSI between 1992 and 1996 were almost three times more likely to have low sperm concentrations.

Although the correlation between these two seems obvious, fertility experts stress that more research needs to be done about the matter. Other fertility experts also confirm that although the fathers may have had low sperm counts, the offspring can still be able to conceive naturally. That is without any ART intervention.

How Can We Prevent Genetically Triggered Male infertility In This Case?

According to fertility experts, ICSI will not in all cases cause male infertility in the offspring. In fact, other factors can also play a role in triggering male infertility in men who are conceived through ICSI.

Currently, couples are recommended to evaluate several possibilities before opting for ICSI. Generally, IVF is an effective ART treatment with greater efficacy although expensive.

IUI or Artificial Insemination is another infertility treatment technique where the sperms are directly introduced into the woman’s body for conception to occur.

As technology advances, fertility experts are finding several possible protocols that can prevent ICSI from guaranteeing male infertility in boy children conceived through the technique.

Meanwhile, couples should take time to understand the treatment before they finally use it for conception.
