In an endeavor to make Mental Health a priority and to cultivate interest in young minds towards the field of psychology, the Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences at Fortis Healthcare, under the aegis of Dr. Samir Parikh, is pleased to announce the launch of Psych-ED 2018, a National Psychology Quiz for school students. Back in it’s 3rd year running, Psych-Ed is a one of it’s kind initiative which aims to make psychology relevant and fun, as it provides students a novel opportunity to further their understanding beyond the textbooks and enhance their perspective of psychology as it applies to everyday life.
The Story Behind Psych-Ed
Given the recent incidents being highlighted in the news and media, there is an increasing need for a sensitized awareness about mental health. And who better than the young minds, who hold the future of the nation in their hands, to serve as the impetus towards such a cause.
While the incidence of mental health concerns grows at an alarming rate, India continues to experience a deficit of over 300% mental health experts. What is required is a paradigm shift in our understanding of psychology and mental health – a change we aspire to make at the grassroots level. Through this quiz, we hope that each student becomes an ambassador for positive mental health, takes the initiative to talk about mental health, thereby reducing the stigma shrouding mental illnesses. It is our endeavor to reach out to the next generation to help us achieve our dream of a sensitized and aware society which understands the significance of mental health.
A Truly National Quiz
Truly national in its scope, Psych-Ed received an astounding participation from 460 schools from 90 cities across India last year alone. Utilizing digital networks, over 1000 students from across the length and breadth of the country, from Tripura to Surat and Jammu to Chennai participated in this quiz.
Quiz Format
Psych-ED 2018 will comprise of three rounds, testing students’ knowledge through crosswords, audio-visual elements, buzzer rounds, rapid fires and mind-boggling riddles. The quiz will challenge teams to step outside their comfort zones, dig deep into their knowledge and understanding of the human mind and think on their feet. The first round will be an online round to be held on 7th August 2018. The top 12 qualifying schools from each zone will participate in the Zonal Finals which will be held across Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata. The winning team from each zone will fly in to the National Capital on 1st September, 2018 for the Finale. Winners of the quiz will receive cash prizes up to One Lakh Rupees, scholarships from G.D. Goenka University and the opportunity to intern with our department.
