Dental Chair Buying Guide

The Dental Chair constitutes the main component of the clinic. It is the workbench of the practitioner and the first thing to get noticed by the patient. So while many aspects need to be seen in a dental chair, there are three more important ones to look in for-

  • RELIABILITY– Whenever you buy a dental chair, always do a thorough research about different dental chair manufacturers and brands available in the market and compare the services offered by them. Always go for the brand that is reliable, has a good track record in quality, offers a considerate warranty period ( approximately five years is good) and a service department to fix any breakdown.

  • FUNCTIONALLY EFFICIENT AND COMFORTABLE– look for features that cater to comfort of both the practitioner and the patient. Chair should be such that it should allow you to be in a neutral position giving a good access to the oral cavity, should have foot control pedals, articulated headrests allowing the chair to be adapted according to the height of the patient. Select a chair having a soft, padded, sleek contoured design maximizing the patient comfort which positively impacts their mindset.

  • STABILITY– The dental chair should be stable and rigid, which can be tested by performing a practical stability test. Make patient in supine position and place the chair at the maximum height, grab the light post and try rocking the chair side to side. The patient sitting area should not sway or move but remain rigid. The chair Base plate forms an important factor in the stability so it should be seen that this base plate also should not move at all if it does seem to rock then the chair will not be able to provide a stable platform to the dentist.

As practitioners, making a list of features you would want in a chair along with the above points will certainly guide you to your perfect dental chair.
