6 Winter Tricks you Need to Know if Your Skin is Parched

Can you feel the lonely slumber of Winter? It’s not surprising to know that it’s not the most favored time of the year. Other than the gloomy atmosphere engulfing the outdoors and the biting cold, there’s also the misbehaving Skin to worry about. If you get really unfortunate, you find yourself down with flu, and worse, it might even be accompanied by a painful cold sore.

Common Skin Issues In Winter

Just like at any other time of the year, your skin reacts to the climate changes happening around you. During Winter, the prevalent cold, crispy wind strips off the natural oils and lipids from your skin, exposing it to the drying effects of the cold weather. Below are just five of the most Common Skin Issues everyone is faced with during Winter:

1# Dry Skin. Cold winds blowing at this time of the year is more than enough to cause your skin to dry out and crack. Add to that the drying effect of your car and indoor heaters and you can expect your skin condition to become even worse.

If you have special skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, it’s not unusual to find your skin flared up during this time of the year. In both cases, several factors come into play, including prevalent cold weather conditions, possibly compromised immune response, bad ingredients in your skin care products, and even stress.

2# Oily Skin. Just when you thought that a drier weather than that of a hot and humid Summer’s day will keep your skin from greasing, in fact, it will make your oily skin even worse. As the environment sucks out your skin’s natural moisture, your skin reacts by increasing oil production to attempt to compensate for the lost hydration. The result can be a disgusting and sloppy volume of grease spread all over your face.

3# Chapped Lips. You can cover every square inch of your skin but, most likely, your face will remain exposed to the elements during Winter. While your face may get a moisturizer, the lips are often neglected. Windburn can make your lips even drier.

4# Cold Sore. This is a condition caused by the Herpes Simplex-1 Virus (HSV-1) which you probably acquired sometime earlier but lies dormant in your body. Cold, flu, and a compromised respiratory system common during Winter can trigger a cold sore to manifest. Cold sores are usually left untreated and go away without requiring any intervention.

5# Dandruff. Yes, the cold weather also zaps out the natural oils from your scalp.
