How Convenience is Ruining the Heart

Many people say that we are living in a crazy world or living in crazy times. Look around and it would be not exactly a stretch to make that kind of determination. Of course, if you look in a different direction, you would draw a much different conclusion.

When seeing the craziness in the world, one would ask WHY? One major reason.

We have exchanged Process for Product, experience for convenience.

Allow me to explain.

There has become an incredible emphasis on getting to the end, regardless of HOW one gets there. A couple of examples:

Instead of taking the time to learn about nutrition, get in touch with specific habits that contribute to obesity, some resort to surgeries such as gastric bypass.

Why? Because it is Convenient and all that

Because it is convenient and all that matters is the end result. Mind you, in most instances, the people who go through this surgery end up at or near the same weight OR another behavior such as excessive drinking replaces the excessive eating.

Many health people now use devices such as “hover-rounds” instead of actual walking. The one who need to move the most end up being the ones who are moving the least.

There is an art to learning how to play an instrument. It is tiresome and tedious. Today, computer generated music has replaced this skill.

In a related fashion, how many people quit taking a course or a class because it gets too difficult or is inconvenient. It may be something they love but talk themselves out of because they have to drive 30 minutes to get there. It is not convenient to get to.

NY Times bestselling Tim Ferriss has made a career promoting “hacks.” They include “winning” a martial arts tourney not by skill but by pushing the opponent out of the ring. He found an obscure rule which allowed him to “win” in this fashion, if you can call it that.

These are just some of the many examples. The problem with them is that when people get to the “end,” they find it hollow and unrewarding. The reason is that the process to get their was where all of the gold is found – was missing.

I run a marathon a year and crossing the finish line is one of the most joyous, powerful experiences I have ever felt. Why? It was not just the 26.2 miles it too to get there. It was the 300+ miles of training over several months. It was being it the heat, the rain, wind and other elements of nature and still going forward. It was getting up at 4am when my mind was screaming “GO BACK TO BED” but doing it any way.

The reward is empty without the work. Our ego gets overfed and our Spirit ends up starving.

In Natural Medicine, learning to appreciate and value the process is associated with the Heart and the Heart energy. It is food so to speak for this organ. When the Heart is nourished by the lessons – even the tough ones – it becomes stronger and stronger. In the process, our immunity improves, circulation gets better and we learn to live with an nearly-ever present joy and happiness REGARDLESS of external circumstances.

Go the extra mile. Take the road less traveled. Sign up for a class and go each time, regardless of circumstances. Learn a language or an instrument until you can actually speak or play it. Finish something that has value to you, even if it takes a long time.

You and your Heart will love it!
