Time to Get Off the Booze Cruise

AS A SOCIETY, most of us get on the Booze Cruise sooner or later. Some of us can stick to minimal amounts of alcohol while others have a more exorbitant intake. Here in the Summer Party capital of the world also known as the Hamptons, ’rosé all day’ is not just a catchy phrase. You may have heard that some alcohol like red wine, can be good for you. This may be true when it comes to your heart and when the intake is low (thank you, flavonoids). Yet the recommended amount for women is just 4 ounces in a day.  In reality, at 4 ounces most of us are getting our glass refilled. Also when you’re on a daily booze cruise, getting lit, or popping bottles in the ice, you may be affecting your smarts. Even moderate daily alcohol consumption, normally okay’ed by the medical community and defined by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention as 1 standard drink for women and 2 standard drinks for men, when assessed over a span of decades can lead to faster cognitive decline.
