DIET TIPS FOR MOM'S TO BE

The first time that women begin to think seriously about health is when they're pregnant. That's when the word 'diet' goes beyond the concept of weight loss and into the realm of nourishment. Since pregnancy is a natural biological phenomenon, there isn't much to worry about. However, here are some tips that may help mother's to be.


  1. When you plan your pregnancy, check with your doctor about the kind of vaccinations you have had and what may be required.
  2. Increase your intake of multivitamins, but through natural means. This means you must eat more fruit and drink vegetable juices, Eat five small meals a day instead of three heavy ones.
  3. Get your basic hemoglobin checked, and if you are diabetic or hypersensitive, bring your condition under control by regulating the amount of salt/sugar that you consume.
  4. Walk for at least 30 minutes a day. Pregnancy tends to become an exercise for laziness, but it has been prove that active women suffer far less difficulty during labor.
  5. Stop dieting and let go of any strange Food routines you may have built up. Don't go ballistic on sweets however, but do make the most of fresh and healthy food.
  6. To control constipation, eat foods with natural  fibre, such as wheat dahlia, lentils, Brown Rice, etc.
  7. Strictly avoid junk food, artificial sweeteners and foods with preservatives and chemicals.
  8. Avoid pickles and sugary foods as they make the system acidic and also lead to water retention.
  9. Make it a point to eat porridge (minerals and natural fiber); dairy (calcium); red vegetables like carrots and tomatoes (carotene); red and orange fruits like apples and oranges (vitamin B complex); walnuts, almonds, and raisins (vitamins and minerals); leafy vegetables like cabbage, spinach and fenugreek leaves (calcium and iron); brown rice, lotus stem and jaggery (iron); sprouts, lentils and pulses (protein). If you are non-vegetarian, then do eat eggs and chicken, but avoid fish because of its heavy metal toxins.
  10. Avoid alcohol, diet drinks, too much tea and coffee, over the counter medications, creams that contain steroids and other strong medications,
  11. To avoid cramps in your third trimester, increase calcium and vitamin E (good sources are nuts and oil-seeds), and vitamin B ( oranges and keenu). If you have back pain, rub with chamomile or Lavender Oil. To avoid swollen feet, don;t sit crossed-legged, raise your feet whenever you can or rotate your ankles every 2 hours, go low on salt, walk, massage your feet and calves with lavender oil to improve the venous flow back to the centre.
  12. High blood sugar and high blood pressure are conditions that pregnant women are prone to, so go for regular check-ups.
  13. And last but not the least, enjoy this phase of your life as becoming a mother is the most magical thing that happens to a women and no other thing can ever replace it.
