Give Your House More Character: Unique Decor Ideas

Unique decor can catch the eye and make a strong statement, it says a lot about who you are and what you love.

Dare to add a creative touch to your house, you can choose one from this list, or maybe this list will inspire you to create something uniquely yours.

If you need some inspiration for unique decor, here are some for you:

1. Chalkboards

A chalkboard in the kitchen would make a lovely and unique decor.

You can hang it on the Wall or on the kitchen door or get a standalone diner-type chalkboard.

You can also write what you want on it instead of using magnets to hang memos on the fridge, cool and practical.

2. Antique window frames

One of the new trends in decorating actually uses very old items: antique window frames.

You can even use them as picture frames, and repaint them to suit your decor.

The best part is: the older they are the better they look. So do not be afraid to take an old one from your house when you are redecorating and make something fun out of it.

3. Wallpaper on the ceiling

Some rooms have little to no vacant walls that you can decorate.

So what do you do if you want to add a statement wall in a room like this? you simply opt for a statement ceiling.

Paint the walls a solid neutral color and choose a patterned wallpaper for the ceiling.

4. Vertical or horizontal lines

You can make small rooms look much more spacious with the simple addition of painting horizontal lines on the walls.

Or, if you want to give your room more depth and create the illusion that the ceiling is higher than it is, use vertical lines.

In addition to that, stripes can add an elegance to a room, or a casual fun atmosphere, depending on how you choose to implement them.

5. Plants instead of curtains

Rather than obstructing the light and the view leave your larger windows bare.

Add some green houseplants, if the window is very tall opt for tall plants as well.

Also, select furniture that will not obstruct the natural light coming through the window, like a low bench chair.

6. Stones for an organic touch

It is rich, sophisticated, and calming. It is hard to go wrong with using natural materials like stone in decor.

You can use stones in an accent wall, or as a unique flooring choice or display beautiful colorful stones in big bowls.

7. Use a blanket as a headboard and accent wall

We usually keep our blankets in storage when the weather is warm and use them when the weather is cold. But the right blankets can give you a picture-perfect look for your walls at any time of the year.

On a large wall, blankets make great focal pieces. Or, do something creative and use a blanket to imitate a headboard in your bedroom.

Throw blankets are a great option for a wall display if you live in a loft or apartment with high ceilings, and you want to make a really dramatic look.

Additionally, a blanket will double as an accent wall since it will cover most of the wall.

Just remember that if you chose to hang a colorful blanket on the wall you need to opt for simple solid beddings to compliment it.

8. Mix and match

Try to stay away from monotonous looks by mixing and matching your stuff.

For instance, if you display framed photos of your kids on a wall or on a mantel mix some of their framed art work with the pictures.
