3 Ways to Make Your Car More Eco-Friendly

Everything seems to be green these days and it’s not really a surprise considering the emphasis being put on combatting global warming by a number of nations around the world but, just because the world seems to be putting a focus on becoming ‘greener’, it doesn’t mean that everyone is actually making an effort themselves. Hybrid and electric cars aren’t for everyone as it’s not exactly cheap to switch to and a lot of people aren’t able to make the switch but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make more of an effort to ensure your car is as ‘green’ as can be.

Here are 3 proven ways to make your car much more eco-friendly no matter the make, model, or year. As they say, every little helps, right?

Avoid Air Conditioning

This is something that you’re probably puzzled at reading, especially if you live somewhere where it’s warm 24/7 and in the peak heat it’s so easy to jump straight to that A/C dial and crank it up and enjoy that cold breeze on your face. Even though it may be great for you and your comfort, it’s not good at all for the planet.

Have you ever noticed that your car engine surges when you turn on your A/C? That’s because the use of the air conditioning in your car increases the strain on your car’s electrical system which means that your engine has to work harder to compensate for this which leads to higher Fuel consumption so not only will you be harming the planet, you’ll also be using more fuel which will cost you more.

Remove Unnecessary Weight

This is a fairly straight forward one. The more your car weighs, the more fuel it uses. It’s as simple as that. If you can remove any excess weight from your car, you could see an increase in your fuel economy. This doesn’t mean that you should take it to extremes and take out your back seats and fit a roll cage but if you’ve got something that’s always in your boot, take it out and leave it at home and you could see a bump in your miles per gallon from this simple task.

Ensure Correct Tyre Pressure

If you’ve not checked your Tyre Pressure for a while, it’s probably worth your while to do so pretty soon as an under inflated tyre doesn’t perform as efficiently as a properly inflated one. If all your Tyres are under inflated, your engine has to work overtime in order to get them all moving which, unsurprisingly means that you use more fuel.

If you maintain correctly filled tyres, they’ll also last longer which means you won’t have to look to change your tyres all the time due to poor maintenance. That’s not to say you can’t find cheap car tyres online or at your local garage though. You can easily find them so you needn’t worry about hammering your wallet too much in order to make sure you’re not breaking the law surrounding tyres. Also, whatever you do, try to avoid buying part-worn tyres.
