Fear: The Biggest Obstacle in Every Aspiring Entrepreneur’s Way

Let’s talk about you.  If you’re reading this, it means that you’re trying to achieve Financial Freedom.  To become Financially Free, you have to become your own boss and be able to earn money on your terms, and it’s certainly no walk in the park to do so!

Becoming totally self-reliant is the key to Financial Freedom, but the actual switch over to working for yourself is where almost everybody who dreams of doing do so quits!

There’s a very good reason for this.  It’s the one single obstacle that stands in the way of success for millions of people every day.  It’s the sole reason why so many people unhappy with their job and their average lifestyle just deal with it, and don’t pursue greater success.

The reason?

FEAR.

That’s right, a single emotion is all that stands in your way on your road to success.  And for good reason too!

Pursuing Financial Freedom and working as your own boss is a daunting task, and can be extremely risky if not done correctly, however the rewards are astronomical.  On the other hand, the “standard” path of going to school, getting a 9-5 job, and working until retirement seems much more stable on the surface.

The hard truth is, both options are equally as risky!

You could go to school and pay out the nose for 4 years (or more for master’s/doctorate degrees!) and end up not being able to find a job.  If you do get a job, you can be laid off and have your entire livelihood stolen from you in the blink of an eye, solely at someone else’s discretion.

This is why working for yourself is worth the risk.

As your own boss, you create your livelihood. You run your life, it’s all in your hands.

Once you overcome that fear of getting started, you’re already ahead of everybody else.  You can go forward without looking back, and pave your path towards your own personal freedom.

I’m going to teach you how to eliminate this Fear.  From the get-go I’ll make it very clear, this is not an easy thing to do.  It takes a strong will and a hell of a lot of drive to break through the fear.  If you’ve read this far though, I have no doubt that you’ve got what it takes.  Let’s get started.

The first thing you have to do is:

LAY OUT ALL THE FACTS

What’s touted as the “standard, stable” way of going about life is simply full of lies.  They promise stability in exchange for 8 hours of every day of your life.

Let’s put this into perspective a little bit:

8 hours a day X 5 days = 40 hours a week

40 hours a week X 52 weeks in a year = 2,080 hours per year

Now let’s say you work from the day you’re out of college until the average retirement age of 66 years old.  We’re talking about 45 years give-or-take a few.

2,080 hours X 45 = 93,600

93,600 hours.  That’s how many hours of your life you’re sacrificing by following the “standard route,” just to be able to pay your bills!

So you’re spending a third of each day sleeping, and a third at work.  That means you have about a third of your time that you can actually spend LIVING until you hit retirement.  What kind of raw deal is that?

Slavery is alive and well in the modern world, it’s just disguised as “stability.”

Now I’m going to lay out a little table comparing the “Standard” path with the “Entrepreneur” path, comparing both pros and cons:

Standard

Pro’s:

  • Defined Salary
  • Social “Norm”
  • Set Hours
  • Benefits (Depending on Job)

Con’s:

  • Never call your own shots
  • The time you spend isn’t an investment
  • A Large amount of your life is simply taken away
  • You’re tied to a physical location
  • No/Little time to travel, explore the world
  • You have to worry about keeping your boss happy

Entrepreneur

Pro’s

  • Work When you want (After you’re set up)
  • Work from anywhere you like
  • Potential for much higher income
  • You’re accountable to yourself only. No boss!
  • Full independence
  • Stability without risk of being “laid off”
  • All time you spend growing the business pays off in spades, the time is an investment

Con’s

  • Requires a lot of up-front time investment
  • Requires learning an abundance of necessary skills, such as marketing
  • People will try to bring you down (more than you think!)

Those are the facts.  Now, the next step to breaking down that wall is to:

DECIDE WHERE YOUR VALUES LIE

Your values are ultimately what should make this decision for you.  Not social norms, not what people tell you to do, but what you want to get out of your life.  I want you to make a short list right now, just write out the 3 things you value most in your life.

My list would be:

  • Family
  • Freedom
  • Happiness

Most likely, your list has the same or similar elements in it, because deep down, everybody wants to feel free, to provide for and care for the ones close to them, and to ultimately be happy and do what they love.

Say you choose to go down the standard path in life, where’s the time for being with your family?  You may make enough money to provide for them, but to enjoy life together with them?  When two thirds of your life are spent sleeping and working (more if you’re commuting to and from work!), you’re left with virtually no time to enjoy with your family.

Freedom is something you simply don’t have when you’re holding down a 9-to-5 job.  Every single day you have to wake up, go to work, go home, go to bed, and repeat.  For 45 years.  Want to take a day off?  You’re at the mercy of your boss.  That doesn’t sound like freedom to me in the slightest.

Happiness comes from doing what you love!  Unless you’re one of the lucky few who actually wholeheartedly enjoys their job, I can bet that you don’t love it.  Even the most interesting of tasks becomes pretty monotonous if you’re doing it 8 hours a day for 45 years!

On the other hand, working for yourself and becoming your own boss gives you the freedom to make your own hours, so you can schedule as much time with your family as you like.  It allows you to make as much money as you’re willing to work for, giving you the freedom to do essentially whatever you like, while not being tied down to a physical job.

Most important of all, working for yourself is simply one of the most fulfilling ventures that you can possibly embark on.  You can look back and be truly proud of what you’ve accomplished, and ensure prosperity for you and your family.  Even if you fall out of love with your business, you can always sell it and move on to something else.

Remember, unlike sitting at a desk all day, all the time and effort you put into your business is an investment.

Now the most important part:

JUST GO FOR IT

The best way to conquer the fear of getting started is to just jump on whatever you want to do.  Just go for it, ignore those annoying voices in your head trying to drag you back to the relative safety of mediocrity.

Regardless of how successful you become in the venture you embark on, you’ll learn incredible life lessons, and become one of the few who are capable of finding success.

Try thinking about it this way:  What do you really have to lose?  A website is 4 bucks, and in the time you invest, you’re growing and learning in a way that you simply can’t understand without experiencing it yourself.  You can apply what you learn about business, people, and money to every single aspect of your life.

Think of it as making an investment in yourself, rather than strictly a business venture, because you’ll learn more than any amount of education could possibly teach you.

The implications of starting and failing are nothing compared to the implications of never starting at all.  Not only do you conquer the Biggest Obstacle in EVERY PERSON’s way of success, that being FEAR, but you can also achieve major success beyond your wildest dreams.

Take your life by the balls, get out there, and conquer your fear.  You’ve got what it takes, now show the world just what you’re capable of.
