I don’t think I’ve ever met a person who doesn’t want to work for themselves.  Nowadays, everybody seems to be on the same path.  Everybody seems to believe that the only way to make real money is by having a boring job.

In this article, I’m going to teach you 5 ways to earn money on your own terms.  No job, no answering to a boss.  Just you, your laptop, and a cup of coffee.

Freelance Writing

If writing’s your thing, then you can make a very decent amount of money doing freelance gigs.  UpWork and Fiverr make this super simple, or you can contact your favorite blogs, websites, or newspapers to ask about opportunities.  You’d be surprised with how much demand there is!

You can expect to net between $20 and $200 per assignment, depending on the length of the piece and who you’re writing for.  As you build your portfolio and gain a positive reputation, your commissions will go up!

E-Commerce

E-commerce has been around since the dawn of the internet, and is the most straightforward of all internet business models.  If you can find and market to a specific niche, you can build major success in this field.  Platforms like WordPress, Shopify, eBay, and Etsy make setting up an online store as easy as a few clicks, and there are tons of tutorials online to help you get started.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning the “Dropshipping” E-commerce model.  Tim Ferriss popularized this model in his book The 4 Hour Workweek, and he explains it better than I ever could, but the general idea is rather than keeping inventory of your products yourself, you instruct the producer of the product to ship directly to the consumer.  I strongly suggest that you read the book, as it will totally change how you think about making money.

Affiliate Marketing

If you have a large social media presence, blog, or website, you can make massive amounts of money with affiliate marketing.  Most bloggers use some form of this to make a large portion of their profits, and you’ve probably seen it everywhere!  The reason everyone does it is because it works.

Essentially what you’re doing here is promoting somebody else’s product, and receiving a cut of the sales that you drive to them.

Amazon and Clickbank make setting this up really easy, you can get affiliate links up and running within just a couple minutes, and it takes minimal effort to get started.

Stock Photography

If you’ve got a sharp eye for taking pictures, this one’s for you!  Shutterstock is a great platform that allows you to upload your high quality pictures, and they give you a nice royalty any time someone purchases the rights to them.

Now that there are high-quality cameras on most smartphones, entry into this market has never been easier.  Give it a shot!

Writing and Publishing an E-Book

The E-Book.  With these you can make absurd amounts of money, however they take a lot of time and dedication to write.  If you have high-level knowledge of a subject, then creating a well-written E-Book can net you a nice stream of passive income. All the work is up-front, however if you market it correctly, you can make money while you sleep.
