Fit In but Stand Out!

It’s difficult walking into a Class for the first time, especially your first college class. Trust me. For when I walked through the door three minutes late cause I couldn’t find the classroom at the end of a twisted hallway, I was mortified. And it obviously didn’t help that all who greeted me where blank faces peering up from behind their computer screens… all male. Here I am in my bright pink raincoat, heeled boots, hair done… obviously I didn’t get the “messy hair don’t care” memo.

In that moment I felt my heart just drop into my stomach.

LADIES!! THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN!

This is not all the fault of society’s masoganistic driven culture, it’s partially on us too. Ladies we need to talk.

That little Voice inside your head, that sinking feeling in your gut, that fight or flight attitude that arises in a setting that’s otherwise completely unnecessary, Shut. It. Down.

Don’t make it control you and your actions, you take control of it. That voice should not scare you, that voice should empower you. Empower you to prove all the doubters and the haters wrong.

So when I walked to find a seat I held my head high and acted like I belonged there. Because if you make others believe that you are strong and you smart and you deserve to be in the same place they are,  you too will soon realize that you were never really pretending.

Now go and conquer the world!

XOXOXO
