Twitter has launched Twitter Lite, a speedier and lighter version of its platform for the flexible web. Concentrated on developing markets and regions having inconsistent or limited internet availability, Twitter Lite will not take more than 1 MB of the memory.

The Progressive Web App, as it is being called, comes with enhanced speed with up to 30% faster launch times and data saver mode that can reduce the data usage up to 70%. Twitter has said that the app has been created with a JavaScript program coupled with a Node.js server for authentication and quick loading of the app.

A great feature of Twitter Lite is being able to be accessed from any web browser in contrast to its heavier app version available on Android and iOS that strictly needs to be downloaded from either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Created in partnership with Google, Twitter Lite comes with extra components on Android, for example, push notifications whether or not Twitter Lite is open, which replicates a mobile app’s behavior.

One-tap access from the home screen – Twitter Lite can be accessed by adding it to the home screen.

Twitter has lately followed the foot-steps of Facebook and YouTube who have realized the potential of India’s 1.3 billion people a long time back. With the lighter version of its platform, Twitter is eyeing to tap India’s vast internet consumer market which is full of advertising opportunities. After India being the first country where Twitter Lite has been launched, Twitter expects Indonesia, the Philippines, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico to hold great potential for its web-app.
