Gurgaon : A Brief History & Overview Of The Millennium City

Gurgaon or Gurugram, is part of Haryana, a state of India, and also a part of National Capital Region. Primarily, it is 268 kms southwest of Chandigarh and 32 kms southwest of New Delhi. Over the past few years, the city of Gurgaon has become the evolutionary future for industrial and financial developments. At this point, there are more than 250+ corporate offices of the fortune 500 companies located within Gurgaon.

History

Gurgaon goes way back to time before 1196,when it was just an extensive kingdom under Rajputs of Yaduvanshi. But, the story of developing Gurgaon begins from 1947, when this city became a part of independent India under Punjab. Going forward to the year of 1966, the city came under the administration of Haryana.

Soon after becoming a part of Haryana administration, Gurgaon started to develop into a tremendous millennium city. The economic growth of the city began with automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India Limited. A few years later, Gurgaon started to develop highways, metros, malls, markets, housing societies and much more.

Corporate penetration in Gurgaon began during the 1970, with the establishment of Maruti Suzuki India Limited. As of now, there are more than 250+ offices in some of the major industrial and corporate zones of Gurgaon. Companies like Google, Accenture, Expedia, Lenovo and other major brands of the world have their offices within Cyber Hub, Gurgaon.

Other major companies such as Sun Pharma, Ashok Leyland, and Nikon have their corporate offices within Industrial Area of Sector 32. A number of towers with major brands are also within Gurgaon. These include, the Epitome, Signature and Time Square.

Noticeably, all corporate buildings and offices are part of major residential localities or societies of the city. As a matter of fact, these offices are also next to prominent residential localities with houses for rent. Some of these localities include, DLF Phase 2, DLF Phase 3, MG Road, Golf Course Road and Sushant Lok 1.

Similarly, many townships like Nirvana Country and Suncity, also have power backups for their residents living within rental flats under their societies or have bought an apartment within their societies.

The Government Scoop

The present Indian government rules and regulation has bought attention to bring Gurgaon closer to the tag of Smart Cities Of India. According to new by Hindustan Times; Gurgaon will be part of 13 cities to be given technical assistance. The Union ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has taken the initiation for the same.
