Tags: dubai

Dubai is not only about young, fast-developing upstart but it’s also about the royal legacy of the past, historically rich saga and the incredible beauty .There is another part to this city which is the heart and soul of Dubai, well I am speaking about Old Dubai. Now Old Dubai mainly consists of, Deira and Bur Dubai which are separated by the old and historically important Dubai creek. Old Dubai offers the glimpse of art, architecture, dining and nightlife. Let’s celebrate older, northern part of town by taking a closer look at the grandeur, fun and amazement of “original Dubai”.

The Architecture

When I visited old Dubai I was amazed to see that this city is still full of full of abras, dhows, and spice souks. At the heart of Old Dubai lies “Dubai Creek” which is the source from which the entire city has developed outwards. It’s like the roots  of Old Dubai and you’ll still find the import and export of goods happening through the creek which is still the heart of Dubai. Another important architectural bliss of old Dubai is The Trade Centre which is Dubai’s famous business tower. It was the first iconic building built in Dubai and this 39 storey tower was the tallest in the UAE in 1979. You can even visit Dubai museum located in The Bastakiya area which is located inside the city’s oldest building: Al Fahidi Fort. Meanwhile, one of the most important houses of Old Dubai is the house of Sheikh Saeed Bin Maktoum because it was the ruler’s house, and is a home to unique architectural elements.

The Dining
A trip to Old Dubai is incomplete if you have not tasted the authentic and tantalizingly diverse cuisine of this place. For those who want to have a michelian studded delicacy, there’s the new Meliá Hotel in Bur Dubai and Signature by Sanjeev Kapoor. These two restaurants are jewel in the crown of food platter of old Dubai and are delivering amazing taste and aroma.
You can even find of the best Indian restaurants outside India in Bur Dubai and Satwa. Oud Metha and Aryaas are few of these restaurants delivering you the authentic Indian flavor. But if you are a fan of authentic Arabic cuisine, old Dubai will never disappoint you, there’s the famous mouth watering  Khan Murjan restaurant which was awarded the MENA gong at this year’s awards. Ultimately, Old Dubai’s dining platter doesn’t just comprise of authentic flavors but it’s a sumptuous reflection of Dubai’s wonderful multiculturalism.
The Nightlife
Old Dubai is a city that never sleeps, the city that evokes incredible joy, and is also the city that parties all night! If you take an evening stroll around Old Dubai’s backstreets, the bars and cosmopolitan dancefloors are dazzling enough to make anyone fall for it. You feel a world away from the artificial glitz of ‘New Dubai’, and you’ll have the best night of your life over here. Chi@The Lodge and Rock Bottom Café are the best places to dance onto the live music whenever someone says a bottle. You can even have a glimpse of the wealth of the live music over here by visiting The Music Room which was declared the winner of Best Live Music Venue at the 2012 Time Out Nightlife Awards. It’s impossible to define what gives Old Dubai its unique buzz but whatever it is you’re totally gonna love it.
Marketplace

Dubai Old Souk is a budget friendly and fantastic  Arabian marketplace where you can find hundreds of retail shops selling Arabian spices, footwear, beverages and food. The traditionally covered souk houses over here are fun, exciting, and amazing to see. You’ll have a very nice time over here walking and shopping different utility items at an affordable rate.

Adventure
The creek in old Dubai is the perfect place to ride an abra and it just costs one dirham. I guarantee you this ride will be the best ride of your lifetime. Both sides of the creek consist of stations in Bur Dubai and Deira, and connect open-air markets, parks and other visually appealing sights. The passage takes about 10 minutes, and the sinuous river revives your entire soul.
There is a delicate balance of authenticity and rawness in old Dubai which must be actually visited to be accepted. In case you want to have a fun filled holiday imbibing into the course in history, shopping and enjoying the sumptuous food then do visit old Dubai as you plan your next vacation.
