Happy Earth Day, Hampton Roads!

It’s that special time of the year when everything begins to turn green, and spring blooms in full. Established in 1970, Earth Day occurs every April 22nd. Over 120 countries around the world participate in Earth Day celebrations, so let’s join our planetary neighbors this weekend and save the world!

Ready, Set, Recycle!

The seven cities of Hampton Roads owe much to our nature—our lovely beaches, parks, and wildlife are a big part of why we love living here, and why tourists love to visit us. That’s why we’ve done the research to find and bring you unique Earth Day events in each of the cities. Enjoy!

Norfolk plays host this year to the Party for the Planet, held at the Norfolk Zoo! Bring the family and enjoy live animal demonstrations, educational sessions with zoo staff, and more, all for the regular price of zoo admission.

Virginia Beach, home of the eco-triumph Mount Trashmore, is holding multiple events. Exhibits, displays, and family-friendly activities will be in full swing, so stop by for some fun, and to make a difference. Bayside Library on the other side of town offers Earth Day Gardening, at which anyone who shows is welcome to grab a shovel and help plant!

Chesapeake’s Plymouth Party in the Park is sure to be a blast. Plant bushes, clean up litter, learn important eco-friendly lessons, and create sidewalk art inspired by what you’ve learned.

Hampton is hosting the annual Walk Hampton Clean, a community-minded event in which everyone joins together to collect litter while exercising. Let’s keep our communities beautiful!

Portsmouth’s favorite Momac Brewery is holding a pallet-painting party for all to come and enjoy environmental arts and crafts. Stop by for some drinks, some art, and bring the pups! It’s a dog friendly place.

Suffolk is holding an Earth & Arts festival! Enjoy music, games, shopping, and earth-centric workshops, all for free!

Newport News’ Virginia Living HIstory Museum is offering crafts, live entertainment, giveaways, and recycling venues—be sure to bring old sneakers, cell phones, and batteries!
