Electric car fan and former governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger is no stranger to Electric motoring, having recently taken delivery of a converted Mercedes G-Wagen. The conversion was performed by specialist firm Kreisel Electric of Austria.

To improve his eco credentials further the actor asked the firm to convert his huge Hummer H1 utility vehicle to electric drive.

Schwarzenegger commented at the hand-over ceremony in Austria:

“Kreisel Electric electrified my G-class last winter. And now a Hummer. If Kreisel keeps it up at this pace, I will soon be able to fly here from LA in an electric airplane”

The gigantic H1 is essentially a military vehicle for road and in standard form gobbles petrol at an astonishing rate. Delivering just 12 miles per gallon, whilst emitting 470g/km of co/2, making it ripe for an electric conversion.

Weighting in at 3,300kg, the electric Hummer H1 concept is now equipped with 100kwh of batteries fuelling two electric motors on the front and back axles, with a system output of 360 kW (490PS). The vehicle can reach speeds of up to 75mph and has a range of about 185miles.

Markus Kreisel, one of the founders of Kreisel Electric commented:

“With our electrified prototypes, we want to show what is possible using Kreisel technology. We will certainly not mass-produce these models.

But our Hummer is a powerhouse in wolf’s clothing, one that drives so quietly even the sheep are not disturbed”
