"Stop and Frisk" Isn't Racist, it's Reasonable

Tags: frisk officer
Background:
Since stop and Frisk was brought up in a speech by Republican nominee Donald Trump, liberals have been up in arms, claiming that the law is racists in nature and should not be practiced. It seems as if liberals have forgotten how long stop and frisk has been used and how useful it has been in bringing down crime rates and even bringing down illegal gun carrying.
For those of you who have no idea about stop and frisk here is the basic idea:
"The Fourth Amendment requires that the police have a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been, is being, or is about to be committed before stopping a suspect. If the police reasonably suspect the person is armed and dangerous, they may conduct a frisk, a quick pat-down of the person's outer clothing."
This coming from a the Cornell Law Website.
So now that you have an idea of what exactly "stop and frisk" is, lets explore the claim of whether the law is "RACIST".
The Facts:
For those of you who don't believe that "stop and frisk" works, your wrong. When stop and frisk was first implemented in New York City by then mayor Rudolph Giuliani, there were 2,000 murders a year in the city. After implementing stop and frisk murder rates went down 65%. In following Giuliani's example, mayor Bloomberg brought that number down to 85%.
Now the law is simply stopping suspicious characters, questioning them, and then whether or not the Officer believe that there is reason to frisk, frisking. Now you mean to tell me that in a place like Chicago, which is just as dangerous as Iraq in terms of American causalities, "stop and frisk" wouldn't be effective?
Now it is true that more African American and Hispanic people are stopped by officers than whites. That is a statistic that shows overwhelming differences in which different demographics are stopped. However, let's remember that this is solely based upon suspicious activity and not on color of skin. An officer cannot stop for no valid reason. And as a citizen you can hold an officer accountable in court of law.
Let's look at the facts again. In 2011 alone, stop and frisk was responsible for the recovering of 800 guns and 5,000 other weapons. Now not only does "stop and frisk" give officers the ability to physically take weapons out of criminals hands, it prevents other criminals from carrying weapons because of the potential for being stopped.
Now to touch on the race issue let's take a look at an excerpt from the Daily Wire:
"Here is what the anti-cop critics never divulge: Blacks are 66 percent of all violent-crime suspects, according to the victims of and witnesses to those crimes. Blacks commit around 70 percent of all robberies and about 80 percent of all shootings in the city. Add Hispanic shooters, and you account for 98 percent of all shootings in the city.
Whites, by contrast, were only 5 percent of all violent crime suspects in 2011. According to victim and witness reports, they commit barely over 1 percent of all shootings and less than 5 percent of all robberies."
Now I'm not a racist, these are just the numbers. And the numbers reflect that the appropriate demographics of each race are stopped as is consistent with statistics.
If your still not grasping the concept let's put it this way. If you are going to say that "stop and frisk" is racist than you must at least be consistent.
How many of you say that TSA is racist. TSA is essentially "stop and frisk" to a much much higher degree. Now let's not kid ourselves, there is a reason why TSA stops people who look like they are not from this country. It's because they fit the description of what they are looking for. TSA is profiling. Why are we not up in arms about this? This is racial profiling! It's because we want to be safe. And odds are that John Smith from Evansville, Kentucky is not part of an evil plot to hurt and kill innocent Americans.
Look it's John Smith Now!
Now let's get back to stop and frisk. Since it has ended, crime as been on the rise. Homicides are up 20%. So now that we don't want to offend anyone, more people are dying. Ridiculous.
Conclusion:
The fact of the matter is that the statistics don't lie. Using TSA as an example I've been stopped multiple times because my skin is a bit darker and I have splotchy facial hair. That doesn't bother me because I know it is for the greater good of innocent people. I for one would like to know that the police are doing all that they can do to protect me. Stop and frisk is not racist. It is absolutely 100% constitutional and if you do not believe me go look at the 4th amendment. I am all for protecting our right to unreasonable search and seizure, but "stop and frisk" is far from that. Now the questions is, will you support a law that has proven to work time and time again. Or will you hide behind the false claims of racism and police corruption. Just remember there will be a point in time where you will be happy that our police officers are doing all that they can to protect us.
