Remembering Mashal Khan

This video remembers the tragic murder of Mashal Khan by a mob comprising students and community members at Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Mashal was a bright, progressive student who was falsely accused of committing blasphemy by his fellow students. Mashal’s family was later harassed and while dozens were arrested and prosecuted the family still needs justice. Mashal is one of many victims of blasphemy law related violence in Pakistan. The colonial laws have become draconian after independence and are misused to settle personal scores. About time that these are amended. Governor Punjab Salmaan Taseer and Minister Shahbaz Bhatti were murdered in 2011 as they tried to amend these laws. But hope was rekindled when Aasia Bibi, a Christian woman accused of blasphemy was acquitted in 2018 after spending 9 years in jail.
