Remington Model 700 PCR Precision Chassis Rifle

The new Remington Model 700 PCR will likely become the standard for 700-series rifles.

Remington Arms has recently released their Model 700 PCR (Precision Chassis Rifle). The newest member of the venerable Model 700 family packs plenty of purpose-driven features, including a 3-shot sub-MOA guarantee, marking the Model 700 PCR as a great competitor in a growing and highly competitive precision rifle market.

The Remington Model 700 is one of the most popular and iconic bolt-action rifles in America, and has been a primary choice of law enforcement and military snipers for decades. The new Model 700 PCR incorporates the latest materials and modular stock technology to create a rifle worthy of consideration to become the new Model 700 standard.

Remington’s 700 PCR is fitted with Magpul PRS stock, Magpul pistol grip, and Magpul 5-round magazine.

Remington Model 700 PCR

The newest Model 700 PCR rifle combines the legendary Model 700 action with an exclusive aircraft-grade anodized aluminum alloy chassis. The 700 action is custom contoured to the receiver providing the strongest and most reliable function over time. The chassis is Teflon™ coated to provide excellent durability and protection from the elements. There is a Picatinny rail factory set on the top of the action for scope mounting.

Rifle chassis systems have been enormously popular in recent years, and for good reason. A chassis system reduces overall weight, while providing excellent rigidity and personalized modular function for each particular shooter. This combination of features allow chassis-built rifles a high-level of stability and shooter-to-rifle fit, providing a great opportunity for precision shots at distance.

Remington Model 700 PCR Features

  • New Remington Chassis
  • 24″ barrel with 5R rifling
  • Threaded muzzle protector
  • Magpul® PRS Gen 3 stock
  • Tactical bolt knob for faster and more positive cycling
  • X-Mark Pro externally adjustable trigger
  • Aluminum hand guard with SquareDrop
  • Picatinny rail
  • Magpul 5-round detachable magazine
  • Magpul pistol grip
  • Remington 3-shot sub-MOA assurance.

The Model 700 PCR will feature a 24.0 inch carbon steel barrel with highly praised 5R rifling. The muzzle is capped with a threaded muzzle protector for those desiring personalized muzzle devices or shooting suppressed. The aluminum AAC SquareDrop hand guard is free-floated ensuring the barrel is free from interference during the shot and the barrel harmonics are as true to design as possible. The AAC hand guard offers key-mod or AAC SquareDrop accessory attachments.

Remington includes their X-Mark Pro externally adjustable trigger for the PCR. The X-Mark Pro is described as providing a clean, crisp, “glass-like” trigger break with virtually no creep. This trigger allows the shooter to make fine adjustments to trigger pull weight, without having to go to an armorer. The X-Mark Pro will ship from the factory with a 3.5 pound trigger pull, the lowest recommended pull weight by the American Sniper Association (ASA). However, the shooter will have the option of adjusting the trigger from 3.0 to 5.0 pounds of trigger pull.

The Remington 700 PCR will have the X-Mark Pro Trigger factory set at 3.5 pounds of trigger pull.

The combination of superior manufacturing processes allow Remington to give a 3-shot sub-MOA guarantee, confirmed by the use of advanced CATS (computer aided targeting system). This is the same system used to verify accuracy requirements for military rifles in action across the globe. Remington delivers their test 3-shot target performance with each rifle.

The Remington Model 700 PCR is currently chambered in 260 Remington, the hottest newcomer 6.5 Creedmoor, and the legendary .308 Winchester. The current chassis is designed for short-action  cartridges. The magazine fits into the magazine well with about an inch of space to the front. This tells me Remington is already preparing to accommodate long-action cartridges for the 700 PCR in the future.

Recognizing a rising acknowledgement of an excellent design, Remington provides the Model 700 PCR a highly adjustable Magpul PRS Gen 3 stock. The Magpul PRS stock has been widely praised, and incorporated into numerous production rifle configurations. Adjustments for length of pull (LOP), cheek weld riser, cant, and butt pad height are quickly and easily adjusted by the horizontal (LOP) and vertical (comb) dials on the rear sides of the stock. There is a QD sling attachment to the rear of the pistol grip.

In addition to the Magpul PRS stock, the Remington Model 700 PCR will also come with a Magpul pistol grip, and 5-round detachable Magpul magazine. A tactical enlarged bolt knob is a perfect addition to allow shooters the fastest and most assured cycling of the bolt-action.

The Tactical enlarged bolt knob is an excellent addition for enhancing rapid bolt manipulation.

BSD Final Thoughts

Remington is the longest active firearms manufacturer in the United States, and has been a rock solid competitor. In recent years they have suffered several setbacks with handguns, shotguns, and even the X-Mark Pro trigger for rifles. However, Remington rifles continue to be produced with outstanding craftsmanship and precision accuracy. The new Model 700 PCR appears to deliver on many levels.

The new Model 700 PCR looks to be an outstanding addition to the Model 700 family, and I’m predicting will become the go to version for law enforcement, and competition shooters. The military already has specialized Model 700 versions (M24). The lighter-weight chassis design, sub-MOA 3-shot guarantee, along with highly modular and adjustable features make the Model 700 PCR an ideal precision rifle. Another reason I really like the 700 PCR is Remington has provided all these features and advanced design at an affordable price.

Remington is offering the 700 PCR in (2) very popular cartridges (.308, 6.5 Creedmoor), along with a well-known outsider (.260 Remington) as well. We’re looking forward to testing the 700 PCR ourselves and will report back on function, accuracy and overall fit and performance.
