Rock and a hard place (Murder of Justine Ruszczyk)

In the wake of so many deaths by cops in America, there emerges this latest tragic story.  A Minnesota women is shot and killed by Police Officers while they were responding to the 911 call that SHE made.  Before I go into my thoughts about this situation i'd like to first give my most sincere condolences to this family for the death of their loved one.  I pray they get the answers they seek and the justice they deserve.

The story unfolds as this; a women calls 911 to report a possible sexual assault that may be occurring near her home.  Moments later 2 officers show up and one shoots her in the abdomen which caused her death.  Obviously we should be able to view the cop's camera footage but there's one problem, their body cameras were turned off.  Both of them!  Now of course both officers have been place on administrative leave (paid vacation) while an investigation s carried out.

So this is where it gets sticky.  We've all been inundated with video footage of African American men being shot and killed by police officers all in the name of "fearing for their life", however in this situation there are two new variables.  A - the victim was a white female and B - there was absolutely no body camera footage, from either officer.  So one has to ask himself, if African American men can't get justice with having actual video proof of a murder, how then could a Caucasian female expect any justice without so much as an audio file.  So now they have a real deli ma on their hands.  On one side if the officers are some how convicted of this crime then it exposes the blatant double standard that exists with our legal system.  On the other hand if the officers are found faultless of any wrong doing, they run the risk of major rebuke and retaliation from the white community.

Please don't mistake my tone as that of a cop hater because i'm not.  I can't possibly label all police officers as bad no more than I can say all muslims are terrorist or all black people are thugs.  What I am saying is that there is a clear divide in our justice system as it relates to the value of the lives black men in America.  So many cops have gotten away with murder simply by saying they feared for their lives.  I personally feel that since so many officers are fearing for their lives these day, the term "fear" should have a more precise definition.  What really qualifies as a legitimate fear.  I know people who have a fear of clowns, is it ok that they shoot them claiming they feared for their life?  Or how about fear of germs, can a person shoot another person for wanting to shake their hand?

In any event this case will be particularly interesting to watch just to see how the white community will respond to a faultless conclusion, vs how the black community will respond to a conviction.  Time will tell.
