Speaker of the House Paul Ryan's Obamacare repair went down in flames yesterday and I did a happy dance. It was a horrible bill, it was actually not even an original bill it was the establishments version of trying to repair a disaster. Obamacare cannot be repaired or fixed nor should Paul Ryan and his establishment GOP buddies have even gone there. Since 2009 the GOP has run on REPEALING Obamacare, not Repair. Yet once again the swamp dwelling establishment in DC tried to foist their view of what is best onto We the People.
I realize I am in the minority in this idea that Government should stay out of healthcare completely, personally I don't want the government to have that much control of my life. I am perfectly capable of deciding what is in my best interest. Obamacare proves that the government is not equipped to CONTROL health insurance. Please note Obamacare does not provide healthcare or access to healthcare, it foists the governments idea of health insurance on every American. Health insurance IS NOT health care, and having health insurance with high premiums and deductibles actually prevents people from getting care because they can't afford to go to the doctor, if there is even a doctor who takes their policy.
What the government misses in all of this is you cannot FORCE doctors to accept this or that type of insurance. Why would a doctor take insurance if the bureaucracy is insanely onerous and the reimbursement for their services is not adequate? The government also decided they knew what were essential benefits, a one size fits all solution which is lunacy. Why would a guy pay for a policy that includes mammograms? Why would a couple in their 50's pay for a policy that includes pediatric dental care? Why would a woman who has a hysterectomy pay for a policy with maternity coverage? When the government mandated that all policies must include essential benefits they drove up the premiums and deductibles to the point that most people cannot afford insurance. The government also decided that all of us would be required to buy a product even if we did not want it and even if we could not afford it.
As an adult it is my responsibility to make decisions for myself and it is also my responsibility to deal with the consequences of those decisions. It is not your responsibility to subsidize my choices and it is certainly isn't the government's job to FORCE you to subsidize my choices, yet that is what Obamacare does and it was also what the Ryan Obamacare Repair did.
I do believe it our responsibility to care for those who truly cannot care for themselves, as a society we all stand responsible to protect the most vulnerable among us. We can do no less. However, the resources and protections for the most vulnerable among us are decreased and diminished when our government becomes a Nanny State with Cradle to Grave entitlements.
Yesterday in my opinion the establishment was defeated and I am thankful. Our government needs to focus on its actual responsibilities. I pray the GOP will remove Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House and replace him with an honest leader and then get on with the job of governing the way we sent them to DC to. I pray that President Trump receives wise counsel and listens to it and realizes that the House and Senate are full of entrenched swamp dwellers that are not on Team We the People.
