“It is in the interest of our businesses, the City of Hudson, and area residents to ensure that all community members and guests, including immigrants, are welcomed and safe while living, working and visiting our great city,” the letter states.
Over 25 Hudson businesses, ranging from corner stores like the Warren Street Market to new restaurants, have endorsed the letter and the resolution.
"Local businesses believe our city's employees, including the police, should focus on safety and service provision,” says Marie Balle, owner of Look. “Immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the federal government, and we support real and comprehensive immigration reform.”
The initiative demonstrates widespread support for a Sanctuary City Resolution in Hudson. “This is our way of building community with not only immigrants and allies, but with businesses that call Hudson home. As shown by this letter and the March 3 forum with Columbia County farmers and Senator Gillibrand, this issue is a human issue, community issue, and an economic issue," says CCSM organizer Gloria Martinez.

As business owners in the city of Hudson, we welcome and celebrate the vital cultural and economic contributions that immigrants make to our businesses and the broader community. We also understand that it is the responsibility of the Hudson City Police Department, in collaboration with the city and it’s residents, to keep all of our Community Members safe.
It is in the interest of our businesses, the City of Hudson, and area residents to ensure that all community members and guests, including immigrants, are welcomed and safe while living, working and visiting our great city.
The local enforcement of federal immigration policy, collaboration with federal immigration agencies, and the illegal profiling of people based on perceived immigration status distracts from the human and financial capital our city has democratically allocated to keeping our residents and businesses safe.
Immigrants are less likely to report being a victim or witness to a crime when they themselves or their family members have concerns relating to their immigration status. They are also less likely to contribute to and visit our city if they feel that they and their families are not safe here.
We, therefore, support the Hudson City Common Council, Mayor, Police Commissioner, and Police Chief in creating and subsequently enforcing policies that ensure the safety of all residents and community members in Hudson, including undocumented and documented immigrants.
