Dorothy Heyl joins the Hudson City Democratic Committee

The Hudson City Democratic Committee (HCDC) welcomes Dorothy Heyl onto the Committee. In addition to volunteering in past elections, Dorothy is a vice president of Historic Hudson, secretary of Classics on Hudson, and a member of the 50th Anniversary Task Force of The Olana Partnership.

With the goal of Progress for All, HCDC builds grassroots support for policy initiatives and candidates. It is the official local chapter of the Democratic Party and works to ensure fair and transparent local elections.

“I’m grateful to have Dorothy Heyl on the Hudson City Democratic Committee,” says Michael Chameides, Chair of the Committee. “She brings tremendous passion and skills, essential ingredients to winning in the 2017 local elections and the 2018 congressional race.”

A life-long Democrat, Dorothy has a law degree from the University of Virginia and has practiced law for over 30 years, both as an Enforcement Attorney at U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission as and in private practice. Dorothy has been recognized for her outstanding pro bono service, including her work on overturning wrongful convictions for the Innocence Project.

“I’m joining the Hudson City Democratic Committee at a time when Republicans control the executive and legislative branches in Washington,” says Heyl. “While I am grateful for our Democratic Mayor, Assemblyperson, Governor and U.S. Senators, we should all be concerned about what Donald Trump and the House and Senate will do with legislation, court appointments, and executive branch positions and agencies. Now is the time to reinvigorate our base and to identify and unite around strong candidates, at a local, state and national level.”

HCDC members are elected biannually during the September Primary - there are two members for each of the six election districts. As per the HCDC By-Laws, vacancies are filled by a Committee vote. There is an additional vacant seat available and the committee is actively searching for new members to fill out the slate. There are also opportunities to volunteer on several committees.
