Corporations & Social Responsibility Part I



Who takes responsibility? Is it the corporation or the government? Aren't corporations suppose to churn money? Aren't they responsible to the shareholders? But at the same time don't they have some committment towards the society? I think this is the long lasting debate of what is the role of coporation in the society and where shall we draw the line?

Let's take the example of off-shoring. Lot of jobs got off-shored lately to India and China and as a result tons of people got laid off here in US. Is it a good thing or a bad thing? From the economics standpoint it is a good thing because if the jobs are not off-shored, the corporations lose their competitiveness and as a result US goods lacks luster, corporations lose money and further lay-offs happen. Whereas on the other side if jobs are off-shored, corporations become competitive and create more jobs for the economy. So, was Michael Moore wrong?
