First Strawberries Of 2017

I had my first Strawberries of the year on Friday 5th May 2017. The beautiful weather we have had now for over a week has really brought my fruits on. The picture below shows a nice plump fruit ready for the picking.

There will be no eating fruits removed from plant immediately this year as I have been experimenting with DIY soap spray for controlling aphids recently and will have to wash them first. I bought some ecover washing up liquid after a recommendation by  poster on a grow your own forum (will have to check username to give credit here on next update) and put a few squirts in a spray bottle with water. I have been spraying it on the affected areas for the last week and it appears to be having the desired effect without any adverse effects to the plants. If it continues to work, it will save me time over my previous method of squashing them with my fingers.
