Canvas cleaning

If you have removable canvas, it can be machine washed. However, for canvas that cannot be removed, use a scrub brush and rub some soap across the canvas. Do so severally. Fels-Naptha soap works best on canvas by removing stubborn stains.
Once the canvas is clean, you can use a spray bottle or hose pipe to rinse it off.

How do you the fix patio chair straps?

After many years of use and exposure to the sun, the patio chair becomes loose and fades. However, the metal structure remains in good frame. Re-strapping involves measuring, cutting, and fixing the straps on the patio chairs using rivets.

For this project, you will need:

  • Straps
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Leather punch or electric drill(optional)
  • Hammer /rubber mallet
  • Hot gun
  • Gloves
Step 1

Remove the old straps

Use a pair of scissors to cut off the fasteners and old straps. While at it, clean the chair frame.

Step 2

Prepare new straps

Using a measuring tape, get the correct measurement of the frame. Wrap the tape around the frame like a strap for the accurate measurement.
Calculate the strap length based on your measurements. Cut the straps into the desired length and number of strips.
Punch or drill holes for the rivets. Use an electric drill or leather punch to drill a hole the center of the strap preferably at ½’ from the strap’s end. Drill hole on both sites.
After cutting and drilling on all the straps, trim the corners.

Step 3

Softening the vinyl straps

You can insert the strips in hot water or use a heat gun for about 30 seconds. Use gloves to avoid getting burnt. Use tongs to remove the straps and dry with a towel. Insert the rivets on both ends of the strap.

Step 4

Attach to the frame

Attach the strap to the frame while still hot. Approach the frame below. Push in the rivet into the hole of the frame. Bring the strand from the outside. If it proves difficult, use a hammer or rubber mallet.
Stretch the tape evenly and pull over to the opposite side of the chair. Ensure is properly and securely attached. Repeat the process till the process is complete.
