Flower power 2

Tags: flower flush vase

The flowers at the plot are really getting into their stride.  The first Flush is always the loveliest, perhaps because I’ve watched and waited while those first buds swell before finally bursting open.

The first peonies are in the vase

The shape and detail of foxgloves fascinates me.

I grew these chrysanthemum macrophyllum from seed last year.  They make an interesting filler for the vase as well as useful landing pads for insects.

This Lady Mitchell rose is fabulous but very sensitive to water damage, so it may not be a great year.

The first flush has finished on Gertrude Jekyll and Louise Odier, probably hastened by the torrential rain we’ve had, so it was time for a spot of dead-heading – very therapeutic. The old blooms brought colour and fragrance to the compost heap – looks like confetti.
