The Pikachu Illustrator Card

The infamous Pikachu Illustrator Card is a Japanese Trainer card that was awarded in a contest in 1997 from an entry in CoroCoro Comic. The card was given to winners of an illustration contest, hence the name of the card. Only thirty-nine of these cards were awarded, making it extremely rare. The fact that the card also says “Illustrator” rather than “Trainer” at the top makes it an even more rare and sought after item. The card is unnumbered and not part of any main set.

The Pikachu Illustrator card has sold for over $50,000 dollars at auction. No, that is not a typo. If you so happen to have one of these cards tucked away in your closet, it is time to go find it and celebrate. Anyone who owns this card will have a very large payday in their future. Collectors love this card not only for its rarity but for its uniqueness. The fact that it is in Japanese, does not say trainer on it, and is not numbered, makes the card very interesting and desirable for collectors. This of course only matters if the collector has $50,000 to spend.
