Top PlayStation4 VR Games Coming the Second Half of 2017

Ancient Amuletor

Release Date: TBA 2017

Ancient Amuletor is a classic Tower Defence game with a twist; by incorporating the PlayStation VR and Move controllers, TiGames has created what appears to be a fantastic co-op orientated FPS tower defence game that is fast paced, brimming with action and has four classes of heroes to select from (Gunslinger, Archer, Mage and Puppeteer). This augmented tower defence game is a genre that has been sorely lacking in the PS4 department.

Dino Frontier

Release Date: 3rd to 4th quarter 2017

Cowboys and dinosaurs? Yes, Dino Frontier fuses two unrelated eras separated by 200 million years into a table-top VR game. You assume the role of Big Mayor (more like God), whereby you build a settlement resembling the wild west, while managing resources and keeping your settlement safe. Enjoy building your frontier settlement and training your settlers to either battle the rogue dinosaurs or domesticate them to be integrated into your town, and find out how raptors make great steeds. Dino Frontier can be described as somewhere between Farmville, Red Dead Redemption and Jurassic Park—an odd yet alluring synergy to be explored through VR.

Ace Combat 7

Release Date: TBA 2017

Oh, yes! What would a VR games list be without a vertigo-inducing flight simulator? Ace Combat 7 throws you into the cockpits of fierce fighter planes, and spits you out into enthralling spine-tingling dogfights. In this tailormade-for-VR game, you assume the role of an ace who is tasked with patrolling and defending the perilous skies. The visuals are sublime and with the aid of spectacular physics, it runs smoother than a shaved avocado. If flight and fight is what you crave, Ace Combat 7 has your fix.

Farpoint

Release Date: May 17, 2017

Farpoint is a galactical FPS set on an alien world in the future, but luckily just as you had hoped, there is no E.T. Instead you have the privilege of gunning down hostile aliens solo or with a co-op ally. The game looks good, the campaign is decent and the multiplayer is sure to bring you joy, but the true pleasure of Farpoint will best be experienced with the AIM VR controller. The satisfaction of holding a gun and peering down the sight to deliver pain and death to your foe is spectacularly delivered through the VR and AIM controller. The aiming is spot on and easy to use, the ergonomic design of the controller assures cramp-free marathons of alien genocide and easy access for dispensing a variety of grenades.

This title doesn’t release in the latter half of the year but it is so devilishly good, it could not be left off the list.

Dreams

Release Date: TBA 2017

Do you remember playing with clay as a kid? Now imagine what it would have been like playing with clay on hallucinogens, and you get a basic idea of what Dreams will be like. No direct description can accurately describe what Dreams is, but at its most basic level, it is an artistically-driven creation game that allows you to breathe life into your creations. In the game, you use the Move controllers (seen as two imps through the VR) to build your dreams/nightmares as well as utilize pieces from other creators to complete your own. In Dreams, you create everything from the creatures to the landscape, even the music and become immersed into a world of VR. This is as close as you can get to directing your dreams and completely losing yourself in another realm, giving credit to its creators Media Molecule for embracing VR to its full potential.

Golem

Release Date: TBA 2017

In Golem, you play the role of Twine, a kid who is confined to a bed during his recovery from an accident. Twine is restricted to a bed but never stops dreaming of the outside world and exploring it in his mind. Soon Twine discovers he has the ability to control large stone creatures called golems, even able to see through their eyes. As Twine, you must battle other antagonistic golems by controlling the actions of the allied golems, uncover the shrouded secrets of your family’s past, discover artefacts and find hidden treasures. Golem is a single-player campaign orientated game that promises to be packed with a great storyline and epic adventures from the company Highwire Games, who brought us For Honour and LittleBigPlanet3.

The Persistence

Release Date: 3rd to 4th quarter 2017

Horror, terror and a whole lot of fun. That is what you can expect right from the start of The Persistence. The game takes place aboard a research vessel traveling through space. You play the role of a crew member awoken from cryo-sleep. Your main objective is to move through the spacecraft and get the engines back online in an attempt to save yourself along with the surviving crew members from an impending doom. To complicate things the vessel is drifting towards a black hole. The terror commences as the ship’s computer begins generating mutants and other-worldly horrors in a botched attempt to recreate the dead crew members using stem cells. You battle these monstrosities aboard using a variety of weapons such as a pistol, gravity bombs and even good old-fashioned fisticuffs.

The fun truly begins only once you die, as every time you’re killed, you respawn as a different crew member and the ship changes its layout and contents alike. An interesting aspect to The Persistence is the companion app that can be used on a smartphone or tablet, allowing a friend to contribute to your journey with a devious duality by permitting the user of the app to guide you or to lead you astray intentionally.
